So sorry to hear this news. Brian and I would occasionally compare notes on all sorts of problems, and folks may remember our PP Models Fairey Firefly kits, Brian made the patterns for the Mk 1 version for us, and a number of our other products. His skills with shapes and materials, especially brass, were just phenomenal, I learned so much from his gentle guidance. And we had had the same model Kawasaki motorcycles too! Kindred spirits.
My sincere condolences to you and your family, Chris. Your dad was a gent, and I am so glad our paths crossed.

Bob MDC got a reaction from Biggles87 in Brian Fawcett
A great loss Brian helped me start MDC nearly 30 years ago he mastered the Swordfish then Typhoon plus lots of other stuff and some interesting projects for other companies.
He was an exceptional pattern maker not only for the replication of the parts but was always made the parts easy to reproduce not a common skill.

One thing to keep in mind is that the two-seat version of the Horten IX is totally fictional. It never existed. We simply do not know what a two-seat Horten would have looked like, had it made it past the drawing board. Literally, this is as imaginary as the type of hyperdrive used on the Millennium Falcon.
The only known drawing of the two-seat Horten IX was drawn by Horten. It is very basic. This was the basis of the Dragon 1/48 kit and ZM 1/32 kit. By the way, the intakes are exactly where the Horten brothers put them in their own drawing.
The single-seat V6 gets mentioned a lot as a basis of the two-seater. The existing drawings of the redesigned single -seat V6 were drawn by Gotha when they took over production. We do not know what a Gotha-redesigned two-seat aircraft would have looked like. No such drawings, if they existed, were ever found. There are a lot of suppositions and flights of imagination. Nothing wrong with that. But it would be silly to argue that "my supposition is better than your supposition".

Bob MDC reacted to Oldbaldguy in Why do we do this?
Background: There was once a time when there were no aftermarket parts for anything. If you wanted something for your model that did not come in the box, then you made it yourself out of whatever was handy. For example, I made more bomb racks and tank pylons out of cut-up and shaped popsicle sticks back in the day than I can count. Nowadays, an awful lot of modelers would rather wait until some enterprising person in a far off land to decides to 3D print a specific part, package it and then sell it for nearly the cost of the original kit instead of making something similar themselves.
Question: Why do we do that? I am as guilty as anyone of using over-priced but very slick aftermarket parts but I don’t know why. I can fashion from scratch nearly everything I need - even at my advanced age - and often do, but most times I don’t. Expedience would be one answer, I suppose, because I am not getting any younger and have more models in boxes than I can hope to build before crossing over. Another answer is that it is simply because the parts are there, so why not? I think that is not enough. I think we trade some of our craftsmanship for aftermarket parts because we feel like we have to keep up. The truth is, most of us simply do not have the skill set or band width, as my wife says, to build competitive models. High quality aftermarket parts make it easy for anyone to do that; we trade money for parts that make us look better than we are just so we can keep up with those among us who are true, world class, scratch modelers. Just an observation; I make no judgements. Brought to you, by the way, courtesy of the red, white and blue, and a variety of Chilean wine I have never heard of and cannot pronounce but, apparently, like very much.
