W O W!!!
I JUST saw her!!!!!! I had no idea what she was...............only that it was the "worst paint Id ever seen" on a flying C-47. Her paint was thrashed, but she was parked front and center at OshKosh this past week for AirVenture 2015. I have some pics somewhere..............

Derek B reacted to Pete Fleischmann in Got my jet back from rehab- The Wave
Flew a jet Provost today in formation with an L-39 owned by my good buddy “Lunch”. That’s my wife and former T-38 IP in the back of the L-39, giving Lunch the finer points of flying jet formation.
good times!
cheers

Good spot Scott!
Unfortunately, that is the nature/mentality of TO type orders...monkey see, monkey do (no disrespect here to any highly trained aircraft technicians here - I have worked (and written) both US and UK tech order/instructions, and there is, shall we say, quite a difference in how they are understood at service level! ).

Derek B got a reaction from LSP_K2 in R-2800 question
Yes, you are correct - I just 'Wikki'ed R-2800 and selected an image without really looking at it too closely, which is normally not like me at all! (however, it still serves to illustrate the principle that spark the plugs can at least still be seen on the front row of cylinders, even if the engine is a different one! ).

Quick pic of the subtle weathering and white IFR probe well, see the rear of it is squared off as per original and dosent have that half circle well in the back.
Off to mix the JB Weld up...

Hey Rich, nice to hear from you.
I use a 'Rosie the Riveter' of varying sizes, compass points and micro drill bits. Generally I use Plastic Dymo tape to run the riveter along, then use a compass point to make the 'divot' round then sand the surrounding mushrooming edges down so the surface is smooth. Then I just go up in 'point' sizes or drills as necessary.
Oh and I cut the Dymo tape into small strips if I have to go around curves, and sometimes I will freehand them. Also I use Archer raised rivets where applicable.
Hope that helps, it really is nothing special
Cheers Anthony

Maybe @chuck540z3 might be able to chime in here on how he does it? Or post something in the Tips and techniques section?

Derek B reacted to Radub in Petr Dousek (Rosie the Riveter) RIP
I was reading the May 2021 Eduard Info newsletter and I found out that Petr Dousek has passed away on 14 April at the age of 55. This was also discussed on a Czech model forum: https://www.modelforum.cz/viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=139750
I met Petr in Prague a few years ago and for many years I supplied him with "cogs" for his Rosie the Riveter tool. He was a very skilled model-builder and a good business man.
May he rest in peace.

LOL, at least the person who did it had the sense to copy from the F-4E/G page in the T.O. instead of the F-4C/D page.

Riddle solved!
And I was just getting ready to introduce my conspiracy theory

You guys are waaaay overthinking this. It's simply a mistake by whoever painted the airplane. They copied the sample data block right out of the Tech Order. Unfortunately I can't post a screenshot of the TO page, but it's identical to what is stenciled on this airplane.
You can see it here in Peter Greengrass' post on this Facebook group:

Such great work Anthony!
Maybe I missed it earlier, but what tools/techniques did you employ for the fine rows of structural rivets?

Derek B reacted to Dpgsbody55 in R-2800 question
It depends on how much of the engine you want to display. All 36 plug leads, plus the leads from the magnetos, are visible from the front, but the plugs on the back of each cylinder disappear as they pass through the cooling tins. If you're doing a model with no removable cowlings, then it's only the front view you have to contend with. If, like me, you like to have the cowlings off, then it gets more complicated. I recently finished the engine on the Tamiya Corsair, and that was a bit of a juggle of parts to thread the plug leads through the cooling tins and into the back of the cylinders. For those, I glued the plug leads into the cylinders first, then through the tins as I fitted those, then into the plug lead ring on the front of the engine. It's just time and patience, and if you get tangled up, put it down and come back to it later.
Cheers,
Michael
