They are rather informative books. Get both volumes if you can. Well worth getting.

Sorry, late to this one! I am interested to see if anyone commenting on this thread, is actually going to have a go! The original poster started by saying, these subjects were ones we would have to scratchbuild if we wanted them, and he is almost 100% correct in that!

So, who is going to give it a go? I have a couple on the PC/Workbench, they definitely will NEVER ever be kitted, and I am definitely NOT going to be developing them as kits, after 45 years of that game I am looking forwards to finally doing some of my own projects, just for me!

Oh, what are they? Westland Wizard, and Hawker P1121...... I'll try and post some pics this evening.  And yes, I know, I should really finish the Swordfish first.....

Thanks guys. I very much appreciate your generous comments and I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.
@Stokey Pete, thanks Pete. I am regularly inspired by many others on here who are masters of the art of weathering. Those creations are what I aspire to and attempt to emulate.
@chuck540z3. Hi Chuck, great to see you. Many thanks for your kind words. I'm thrilled to hear that you noticed some of the subtle mods. As you well know these little touches can lift a model sometimes.
I confess the chipping was fun to do and I got lucky with the end result.
I used hairspray this time but in fact I could have probably just gone with straight acrylic paint over the Tamiya whizz can undercoat and got a similar result.
I know you have this model in the queue and I'm itching to see it "kicked up a notch".
@RBrown and @europapete. Haha, thanks guys. You just made my day.
My ultimate goal is to achieve something akin to the models of Rod Bettencourt who regularly manages to create photos of his models that are virtually indistinguishable from the full sized aircraft.

    All the best,

Get the Alcorn book, it will hold your hand thru the entire process, it’s not as scary as you might think.

Oh, ok. Put me down for a Blenheim, a Defiant, and a side of Battle. Will have the Firefly for dessert.
A bottle of Castrol 40 weight for the main course and some glycol for after dinner.

Likewise: I’m meant to building a Staaken with you! Then Kotare released a Spitfire then the Jubilee build and then HK started pointing scanners at Big Beastly Beaus… It’s all too much! I think I’ll have to go and have a lie down…

europapete reacted to thierry laurent in Macchi Fighters book.....Oh, my!
Well I got one less than a month ago! I paid it the double of the initial price but again I cannot complain as it looks quite difficult to find any of the OOP ones for less than 100€!
I used Find-more-books and Eurobuch. I found 11 of the Classic OOP books in less than a month while staying far from the crazy prices. So it IS possible to find them but you need to look for them everywhere daily on sales platforms such as ebay, Amazon, Abebooks and others like Rakuten plus check all the major resellers.

One day, all models will be made this way

    If only!

Consider my appetite well and truly whetted Peter.

I know that some members would encourage you to leave your models unpainted and I can see the appeal.
I'm in the opposite camp though. For me, painting over the real metal finish with it's occasional minor imperfection or flaw is the ideal way to recreate the appearance of real aircraft in miniature.

This technique is what I aspire to and your builds are a marvellous inspiration.

Very eager to witness the full reveal

europapete reacted to Dennis7423 in Thoughts about Possible Future Kotare Releases - NOT a wishlist
I think a Beaufighter is inevitable from Kotare as well, even though HK is likely doing one. It just checks all the boxes for a company like Kotare (subject, nationality, size, appeal). It will be another case similar to the 1/32 Lancaster between Border/HK... one will be more highly detailed, and with more finesse, but one will also be cheaper. But I suppose, if we're looking at the price of HK's A-20 series as a benchmark, the difference in price between an HK Beau and a Kotare one might not be all that different.

Boy, wouldn't we be spoiled if we had two Beau's to choose from? Sorry Revell Beaufighter, but you'd finally be able to rest in peace.
