    Hi everybody!
Thank's for watching and kind opinions.
Today continuation of wing construction. When I made all ribs I started to think about spares. In first version I'd like to make both spares fragmented on parts glued  between ribs. I made front spare in this case, but I was affraid of geometry of second one. So I decided to do it in one piece with incisions on ribs. I had to do the same in ribs. I made base with drawing of the wing as always and started to complete structure. First ribs on place.

    All ribs on place.

First fragments of front spare glued to rear part of leading edge.

    Regards

It´s rather the Gee Bee R1/R2 kit which has the 2 options for the engine IIRC ...

Williams also used to sell the engine separately, and it could found regularly on eBay ...

    Gday all from OZ

Long time lurker, first time poster. As an avid builder of 32 Scale it is about time I put some work up on this forum.

This is Fisher Models RB-51 Red Baron racer, finished in her final scheme from the 79 Reno races.

This is the best full resin kit I have ever built by a clear margin. There was only one area of tricky fit and I used less filler than on my last high quality injection moulded kit. The great, and time consuming, challenge was the high gloss finish. Of the three months taken to build this kit, two and a half were spent painting, or waiting for enamel to cure. Colours are Modelmaster insignia white and Italian red with Alclad chrome around the exhausts. This is then finished in about five clear gloss coasts – all buffed between coats (got the feeling I now have an understanding of the complexities of high shine auto finishes). Bar some HGW seatbelts the kit is clean out of the box

Thanks to A30_737_AEW&C for the last image of the kit on a contest table.

    Cheers

Thanks, Kev. I used to be an aerospace engineer in my former life, so it seems that at least some of my abilities are still tugged away somewhere in my old brain...

I managed to do some work on the fuselage section. Here is what I have so far:

This is the port side of the fuselage center section (the engine compartment). If you think it's a bit rough then that's because, ah... it's a bit rough. I'm not putting much effort in the structure (in terms of beauty) as nothing will be seen anyway once the skin panels are in place... But it is sturdy!

Well, the best laid plans... yada yada yada. It turned out that some of the frames, to be honest, most actually, had to be modified to result in smooth transitions between them. You may or may not have noticed, that I have not yet taken care of the main u/c bay which will take up about three quarters of the lower part of this fuselage section. I first want to get the overall shape as correct as possible before I tackle the gear bay. However, that will require some serious surgery...

The base plate on which the frames are mounted, has been pre-cut so I can break out the center part (with the red letters on it) to make room for the engine. But that will have to wait until the skin panels are on and sanded into shape and the starboard side of this section is in the same state of construction.

    Thanks for looking

It occurred to me while looking at a photo today that I'd meant to tell you folks about an idea I had years ago, and have been using that idea ever since. I was adding some tiny pre-painted parts to a model using tweezers, but kept scratching/marring the paint.

My solution was to plunge the tweezer ends into hot candle wax, let cool, then use the waxed tips to grab the small bits. This also had/has the side benefit of allowing the soft wax to grab the part easier, as the wax is ever so tacky, but not so much as to mar the surface of the part being handled. Once finished, I just slip the wax tips off, and throw them back in with the candle wax that's already melted, for reuse on another day.

"...Why tie down a bare airframe?..." That's an Interesting question, but at least an answer could be easier found than asking "...why to leave maintenace panels opened on a loaded aircraft?...".

I guess a judge's worst nightmare is to grade an amazingly built & superbly painted Horten Ho-229 Flying Wing or some fictional Luft projects that never actually became operational fighters, because nobody really knows what happened and how. Right?

Believe it or not, someone once saw the Noah's Ark model (1/350 scale by Minicraft) and said "...it's not accurate..."

Thanks Dan. As it happens, the section of decal I've applied doesn't want to come off! So, I might just apply all the others and see what is looks like. If I'm not happy, I'll just soak it in some Windex and it should all come away. If I am, I'll have to deal with the internal colour somehow. I don't have any clear decal film, so I may just have to mask and spray the inside. We shall see!

Use Scotch tape or similar clear tape. Burnish on decal and slowly lift tape off. Decal will come off in pieces with tape. Only works if model hasn't been clear coated.

Mark, another thing to try is to use tape to pull them off.
Unsealed decals can often be pulled off using masking tape.
Rub the tape down on the decal and peel it off and it will often take the decal off with it.
Tamiya tape will do it or a more adhesive one will work provided you are sure your paint finish is bonded to the model properly. Can't speak for acrylics but it works fine with enamels.

I think we are kindred spirits Derek - love building, but find painting a dark art.. the finishes I see on this site are an inspiration, the Wildcat that X15 shared is incredible - I just can't comprehend how it's done. I guess the only way to get there is to start so I am practicing on the little bits..

..I got the prop and tips and wheels finished - I must have done 6 or 7 fine coats on the tips to get good coverage and am starting to understand that even simple airbrushing takes much more care and time than I thought. so far, so good.. (to me anyway ..)...

    a propeller, sans weathering...

..I detailed the Fisher hubs - feels a bit like cheating since I started this for the OOB Group Build and this is the first and only bit of AM...

..and painted.... (with an airbrush )  - I love the treads so full respect to Paul @ Fisher

    ..and checking with the legs/doors..

..I also finally got a canopy I was happy with having tried vac-forming from different clear sheet types, I used K&S in the end, (actually it arrived from the US first, the Vivek recommended earlier is still on its way)..

..it is not perfect, but I need an optivisor to see the flaws, so good enough (attempt 12 I think..)...I cut it out which I must admit was easier as the K7S stuff is really stiff and workable once moulded....this is it after dipping in Future..

...and the first part of framing added..

...got the rest of the framing and all the internal structure to look forward to tomorrow...

I personally am finishing it OOB because I have no DSB Navy birds in my display case, and I like the wooden props too.

I think if you want a cool looking "what it" you could always do it in the prototye scheme that never was "actually" built, but did have a cool 1:1 mock up.

I have JUST arrived back in town from the Reno air races and airshow. I wasnt sure exactly which Model 75 you were producing......................however:

We arrived very early in Reno..........on Monday morning at the airport in fact...............and there was a Model 75 in the traditional blue fuse/yellow wing combo setting glistening in the sun right before us on the tarmac...................in full and perfect access to EVERYTHING.  I again was not sure which model SWs was producing but I IMMEDIATELY thought of Silver Wings and took my opportunity to snap almost 60 detail shots of every single thing I could. The only thing I didnt do was actually jump in the cockpit....................but still managed to hang the camera OVER the cockpit none the less.

If we are talking absolute "fantasy" with no real hope of seeing an example of a 1/32 kit, I would love to see the following:

Lockheed Orion airliner of the 1930's
    Sikorsky S.38
Junkers F.13 (or 24?, or a float plane Ju.52 in SAS colors?)
Stinson Trimotor (low wing version) airliner
SM.55 double hull flying boat that the Italians flew across the Atlantic in the 30's
    Wibault-Penhoet 283-T French airliner of 30's
Handley Page HP.42 gigantic airliner of 30's (probably the most fantasy land of all of these).
Ok, these two are actually the furthest out: Martin 130 and Boeing 314 Pan Am China Clippers.

On the other hand, who would believe we could see half of the Schneider Trophy racers and a Spirit of St. Louis, or even two vacs and a rumor of an injected Lockheed Hudson, convertible to a model 18 with a lot of trouble. Who would believe a PBY, or even a B-17 in 1/32 scale just a few years ago? or a Salmson 2A2?

Might I seriously hope for a Martin B.10B or a pair of Curtiss Shrikes? or a Breda 65 and Ro.37? They don't sound as strange as they once may have. And I have real hope for several kinds of Viggens and Drakens.

Like Stephen said, when they built just about all the versions of any airplane you could imagine in 1/72, they moved on to a virgin market in 1/48 and people still bought more kits for higher prices. Now that the 1/48 market is reasonably filled out with the most "likely suspects", the 1/32 scale market is open for adventure. We have proven to be willing to drop a lot more cash per plane on the hobby than the 1/72 market has, so there is at least a possibility of some return on their investment.

It is a great time to be building or even just collecting 1/32 scale, as long as your cash flow can handle it. Most of us can at least afford the few Holy Grail kits that we hoped would someday appear. If all of my wishes came true, I don't know what I could do to afford or display them, much less get them built...

Scratchbuild..... Free yourself from the manacles and chains of waiting and hoping that some kit manufacturing accounts department is ever going to get a dose of genuine inspiration. I know it happens occasionally, but at 55, I've realised if you really want something, crack on and do it yourself. And before you say I can't, or I don't have the time, consider this. If it takes you a year to build it, that is still at least 9 years less than waiting for an injection moulded kit...

Slow progress with the Sparrowhawk but the end is near. Decals all on with only one small glitch; the Black outline stripes for the chevron and fuselage bands are one piece with a clear carrier between the stripesl but that carrier turned out to be milky white which turned the red areas a real ugly pink. The fix was to use some 30 year od thin single stripes from the spares box.

Now the fun begins with rigging; I used steel wire inserted into the predrilled holes in the wings and fuselage

Filing and fitting the notches in the lower wing leading edge was a challenge and although the wires fit properly while dry fitting the lower wing and wires
but the notches were not aligned once everything was glued together

Still more to do with small parts but that is for later
