Smokey reacted to Ryan in 1/16 ILK Sherman M4a1
Thanks everyone for the interest, likes and comments.
I need to go back in time for a little jig work I did. First was a rectangular unit designed to give me exact sizing on the brass track pins used. Once the pin was inserted, it was held tight against a stop and then cutting proceeded. The cut off saw made fairly kwik work of this, but still took some time to cut all the pins...each pad has 2 pins. You can see in the second shot near the end of the process, the jig was really giving out...a combination of brittle resin and sharp burring causing the saw to jerk the pin and breaking the resin.
The second jig was made to locate the missing (4) bolt holes on the bogie that attaches the return roller bracket to the main unit. As most of you know reading this, the bogies could work on either side of the tank, only the return roller needed moved thus empty bolt holes are visible.
Not all 3D printed work is glamorous but useful tools can be made as well!

The wheels were also a mod I designed....who like rubber!
For you 3d=D nerds the .10 was the size of the overage I used to fit around the ILK rim.

Smokey reacted to LSP_K2 in Takom 1:72 USS Missouri 16" Gun Turret
New deck pieces temporarily set into position, just to get an idea of overall proportions so far. Forward portion of deck will be trimmed off ahead of breakwater, and breakwater itself is of course ahead of the gun muzzles, and will probably be the single biggest challenge of this project, but it really needs to look right.

A couple of new goodies. A bulk bag purchase of various size and grit sanding drums and mandrels which should last me three lifetimes (at least).
And a new small compass set, which seems to check out as rock solid, unlike the junk Staedtler item that I'll soon be returning.

Smokey reacted to Serkan Sen in Legendary Blackbird - YF-12A "Project KEDLOCK" (3D Printing in 1:32 scale)
Hello everyone,
It’s been a little while since I last posted, but I’m back with an update on my ongoing YF-12A. Before starting cockpit detailing, the nose wheel bay was needed to place in:
Next step was to join fuselage front and mid sections:
To bond resin parts and fill gaps and seams, I always use UV resin, applied with a syringe fitted with a rounded-tip needle. For larger gaps (such as imperfections from the printing process), pieces from the print base are placed into the gaps and glued using UV resin, which is then cured with a 405nm LED flashlight:
To effectively fill large gaps, apply the UV resin in several thin layers (less than 1mm thick) and cure each layer with a handheld torch. The curing process takes just a few seconds, allowing the filled area to be sanded - either wet or dry - immediately afterward. Since the printed parts, filler material, and resin are all made from the same product, the sanded surface will have a seamless finish with no visible traces of the joint areas:
Next step is to start painting the cockpit details.

Smokey reacted to blackbetty in Digital HARM shooter FINISHED
I fooled around a bit what would be my next build this time. I pulled the Viggen out (had allready drawn decals for that one) then a Harrier, the Trumpy D Tomcat, but then stumbled on this pic:
i dont see the BRU rack on the plane, but the digital Flankers carry HARMs:
the blue/yellow fin is nice, so i will give it a go

Smokey reacted to Martinnfb in Model Monkey for the win!
Big shout out to Steven from @Model_Monkey for answering my plea and designing 1/24 scale Hamilton Standard propeller hub. The Kinetic’s part is hugely oversized and out of proportions.
… pictured below is the MM product, besides the kit part that was already altered by reducing its length and diameter, yet still too big and thick.
Thank you Steve
Cheers

Smokey reacted to Juggernut in Tamiya F-16C - Block 50 w/Upgrades - Finished and In RFI.
This is what I've been up to for the past few months - getting bench time is somewhat limited in the Summer. Everything resin, except the drop tanks themselves had steel pins imbedded within the parts to allow them to mate with corresponding holes in the pylons for positive attachment/glue points.
Standalone shot of the BRU-57 and BRU-61A bomb racks.
BRU-57 by Reskit on the Tamiya Sta. 3/7 pylon. I primed the pylon and painted it with yellow zinc to allow me to use the hairspray technique to mimic the wear on these pylons I see in photos of operational aircraft. After viewing photos of the pylons, I drilled #61 holes partially through the pylon where the sway brace adjusters are located and then center drilled #75 sized holes all the way through. Added 0.020-inch styrene rod to mimic the adjusters. Doing that allowed a recessed area around the circumference of the adjuster that I'm seeing in the photos.
GBU-58 LJDAMs by Reskit still in work. Decals applied, gloss overcoated and waiting for a flat coat before adding the stainless steel bands around the bomb unit.
BRU-61A bomb rack by Eduard on a Tamiya Sta. 3/7 pylon.
GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (SDB), still in work. Just put the decals on them tonight. These come with the BRU-61A rack from Eduard.
AIM-120C-7s by Reskit. No fins (yet). These will go on Sta's 1 and 9
AIM-9X by Reskit. These will ride on Sta's 2 and 8.
Last up for tonight, 370 Gal. external tank and pylon by Reskit placed next to the kit parts. Notice how detailed the Reskit offerings are. They do come with a little bit of work required though. The 3D Print layer lines needed to be eliminated as much as possible; at least on my set that had to be done. I've got the Reskit tanks and pylons primed and painted with a yellow zinc undercoat in preparation for hairspray technique to mimic the wear I see in photos.

With the bottom of the turret now glued on, gussets are a perfect fit around the gun ring.
