  1. Hi Guys

I've been wondering if anyone else build after a theme ? Granted... 'that looks cool' is a theme too, but I hope you get what I mean :D

I'm that I've to a vey high degree has been building to a theme, although themes have shifted somewhat over time, but still. These last few years I've been building to a theme that is to include as many nationalities the participated in WWII as possible. At the same time it needs to be interesting planes, so it's not going to be 20 spitfires identical except for the code letters. I find that doing the research is just as much fun and can sometimes bring up some surprising results - just you wait with one I have WIP now...

    So... anyone else ?

AND: It is sometimes hard to spot the theme from ONE model when you present the latest, so would it be ok to do a RFI post with a bunch where they are not 100% recent builds ?

  2. Hi Chuck

I didn't notice your post until now... when I saw it I started racing through it to see if you got to the boom/cooler inserts and warn you about it... too late :D

I cut the booms before joining them and found that I got the best fit against the boom by shimming both top and bottom. But whatever works for you

You gave me a little info about some G/H differences I didn't know about - thanks. The wing support info came too late though...

    Excellent work so far !!

BTW my conversion seems to only have the NLG mirror on the right part... maybe the left was lost in sanding, entirely possible with this conversion

  3. Having done a single vacform I know what you mean when you say it doesn't bear close inspection - but I think you are being too hard on yourself. Yes it will have some rough spots as mine did, but it's an amazing effort nevertheless, and one that your should be proud of. I did a Ki-45 (shortly) before ZM came out with theirs, and one of my pals asked if I would get a ZM kit to put next to it... hell no, that would highlight all of the errors and shortcuts I did :D Enjoy the fact that you actually made it to the finish line with such a fine result - yes a good result. I don't see any problems, but then I didn't have my nose in it for a long period of time.

having had the privilege of fondling and assembling a partial taest shot I can say without hesitation that anyone buying this kit will not be disappointed.

Bar a couple of tiny tooling errors which have been fed back to Neil for correction, the kit goes together supremely well, is syrdy and highly detailed with a subtle stressed skin appearance.

I say its a partial test shot as I didnt receive the undecarriage sprues and was constructing without instructions.

Sorry - not trying to make fun or anything, but an non-native-english speaking wants to know... what is "syrdy" ?

    Nice work Thomas.

Was the upper aft canopy part of Pastor John's conversion set?  As may Ju88 conversion sets PJ has made for the Ju88 and subsequent other aircraft, I think it would be interesting to have a thread showing AIMS conversions in use, especially Ju88's, after all there were 15k Ju88s  made in real life. I am finally, after 10+years in my build queue, going to start a Ju88 T-1 conversion using Pastor John's conversion set.

BTW I've got a Bf110G night fighter conversion from AIMS, that I need to work up a little mojo to start. A massive conversion

No - bought the A-1 in 2008, and once the C-6 course was set, I was expecting to scratch the rear canopy. I got wiser, was not going to happen. So once the A-4 came out I got that for the canopy (and the under-nacelle boxes etc). Now, it's been over quite a few years, but AFAIR it's AIMS nose and wing tips only...

    Everyone: Thanks

  7. Wow - excellent work

I did a ID (Tigger) vacuform some years ago and it IS hard work, but once you finish it'll be quite a sense of achievement !! After I finished I said 'never again' but after a recovery period, I'm doing something equally crazy :-) Yours is looking better than mine with regards to the interior detail, but then I chose one that had very very little documentation.

Looking forward to seeing this progress

  8. Just completed this after participating in a 'Shelf-of-Doom' build elsewhere. I bought the A-1 back when it came out in 2008 but quickly found that the camo's for the A-1 were too dull for my taste so I decided to convert to the well known C-6 with a fake bomber nose painted on to fool russian fighter pilots. Got a few resin items from AIMS but the real problem was the 'boxes' under the nacelles on later Ju88's and in particular the bulged gun stands on the rear cockpit. So it was on the SOD for years until I got an A-4 with the necessary bits. But still it did not really move - mojo too low I guess. However during this SOD build i finally found it again and completed it.

Not easy to photograph such a big bugger - my photo tent was way too small. Too bad i didn't finish it a week earlier as we had some snow - would had been a good photo op

  9. Beautiful work !!

How did you find the base kit ? I've slightly started it and it's my first ZM kit. I find it to be worse than I expected - mind you I expected a lot from all I hear about ZM kits, so it's not BAD just not as sublime as I expected... a little soft in the details. I'm thinking that it was ZM's first 1/32nd kit (right?) so that might be it...
