Grant_T
My entry will be this kit completely OOB. Just reading the instructions and pondering the build right now. Grant_T
Okay, finally some progress. I've been building this in the evenings after work. I've really enjoyed it so far, but there have been challenges. The whole kit is typical new Revell: it feels really cheap in parts, but the fit, engineering and detail in other parts is great. The kit gets a passing grade for me because it is overall a fun kit to put together. Cleaning up parts and gluing: The thing went together very quickly. I painted the cockpit but don't have pictures at the moment. I didn't use the decals for the instrument panels because they look cheap and don't really match the detail anyway. Next up, the very detailed engine which looks great, but I want to to have this build all zipped up and I have a nagging feeling that the fit of the cowl with the engine inside is going to be challenging. Engine glued together (but not painted): And yup, as suspected it was a bit of a challenge for me to get the front end together without surgery. I think the kit could be vastly improved with a piece that simply allows one to build the cowling without bothering with the engine. This is basically what I did: And where it is now: A bit more gap filling and refinement to do before an under coat. monthebiff
Nice work Grant and super quick work! I have the F-8 and have been building it on and off with both Eduard Big Sin sets for about 18 months now. Lovely work and fully agree with you about the fit issue's. Keep going and great progress. Grant_T
Thanks all, this has been a really fun build and I can't leave it alone. The construction is finished and I've just primed it with X-23. I can see where some more filler is needed, but I'm pretty close to painting, which as always for me is the bit I look forward to. I bought a new lamp the other week (from a sewing shop of all places) which is fantastic for building but not so great for photography. Anyway, here are some pics of the progress. Out2gtcha
That looks great! I have to say, it looks strange (cool strange) with the long upper damper covers above the exhaust. Looks nice and smooth, so paint seems close........
