Bruce_Crosby
Hi Guys, More work on the Mustang conversion. First photo is the panel lines on the spine. I cut a template from litho plate so I can use it again. The next item on the list was to relocate the ID lamps as they should be further inboard. Starting to scribe the new panel lines. The ammo bay is a lot shorter on the B/C versions, plus the wing mounted landing lamp, etc. The other wing. In two parts, how the lamp was moved. Messy! Modifying the lower wings: Marking up the new ejection ports: Some cutting...….. And shutting…….. Hope you approve. Antonio Argudo
great job Bruce, it's coming along very nice, great attention to detail, I also started transforming the "D" revell to a "B" but my project is stopped at the moment, how are you going to render the inner wing leading? I used milliput and works fine. I have also NAA blueprints for the "B" if you vere need any document pleas ask freely looking forward your progress. cheers Out2gtcha, Bruce_Crosby, Rick Griewski and 1 other
Rick Griewski
This is a great thread! Thanks for posting your work. I am currently working on a P-51B using the new Revell D kit as the donor kit to a Hobby Craft P-51A. So far so good. Next step is to splice in the radiator section from the Revell kit. I will be watching your project with great interest. Next I want to do the kit bash your way. Rick Bruce_Crosby and AlexM

Bruce_Crosby
Hi Guys, Actually no progress at all. I was side swiped by Richard Andrews of Aviattic and built a WNW Junkers D1 model for display for him. God knows how I got dragged into that but it sure was fun. I hope to be back onto the Mustang soon, along with the six Fw-190D kits and a couple of Piper Cubs and a ...... and a ..... and a ..... I’ll let you fill in the gaps! I’ve also been drawing up a complete set of RAF code letters and numbers that are scaleable to use in the Silhouette machine. regards, Bruce Crosby LSP_Kevin, Kais and Whitey

Bruce_Crosby
Hi Gerhard, As I said in the post, the whole lot is scaleable. All I need to know is the height. Regards, Bruce Crosby Kais
docdodj01
WOW! Nice work there! I'm actually having the same idea as yours. I already compared a revell B to the new D. As reference, here are my images: From the front, actually the lower part of the cowl of the B matches the D almost perfectly, as in decimals of a millimeter. I now believe the upper cowl of B is the reason for the shape problems of the old kit. IMG_4256 by Docdodj, on Flickr IMG_4255 by Docdodj, on Flickr On the belly, same thing, an near perfect fit. Even the rear landing gear opening is the same size and position on both kits. IMG_4254 by Docdodj, on Flickr IMG_4257 by Docdodj, on Flickr IMG_4251 by Docdodj, on Flickr Overall, other than the obvious differences because on is the D, the other B mustang, I have to say that the old kit, shapewise, does hold well. IMG_4252 by Docdodj, on Flickr IMG_4253 by Docdodj, on Flickr IMG_4258 by Docdodj, on Flickr Sorry Bruce if I hijacked your spot a bit. I'd love to see your approach! BTW, the wings on both kits, other than the leading edge are also excellent fits. I suggest that you just graft the leading edge, by cutting it similar to the kit part. Then graft the part of the front of the leading edge of the the B to D to avoid having to reshape the curve of the wingroot as it is pretty much accurate. Bruce_Crosby
Hi docdodj01, You’ve done exactly what I did, a complete side by side, piece to piece comparison. All you’ve got to do now it get out the razor saw and make the first cuts! Good luck with that. My work has stalled as I’m busy doing some commercial kit building, deadlines and all that entails. I hope to be back on track with this kit in a week or so, plus the 6 Hasegawa Fw-190D kits I'm batch building and the trio of Revell Piper Cubs.
