TF-104G and (R)F-104G Italeri 1/32 on their way...

Man, I would think an RCAF/CAF roundel would be one of the easiest things to make a paint mask of, only 3 colors, no 3D artwork with 1 simple silhouette shape, and a set of centric circles.

Looks real simple, yes!! On the Canadian 104, the wing roundels have stenciling applied in the schemes shown in the pics.Still noticeably absent on the Italeri decals.

My birthday is in February but it seems I'll be enjoying another one this August!! All I need now are some JASDF markings! Roll on!

Unfortunately for you the only Japanese marking you will have soon on a F-104 is from the re-release from Eduard of the

1/48 Hasegawa kit with resin parts and photoetch + a complete decal sheet for JASDF Starfighters.

This have been announced in Germany at the ‘'Expo Spielwarenmesse Nurnberg 2018''.

Seems from initial looks at some/most of the JASDF markings they could be reproduced via paint mask?

The Himomaru are simple enough, and the majority of stencilling is english on the JASDF birds. Intake warning, some of the emergency stencilling around the cockpit are in japanese.  tail airframe numbers can be stencils or even other USAF generic decals. Nose numbers are an odd size, and Squadron markings can be done with stencils, some are fairly simple. The Tamiya F-15J can give a sample of squadron insignia (panda bear) that you may be able to use as ref to scan, resize and print your own. As for 1/32 JASDF decals, hasegawa did a set in a very early release, though they were pretty plain. A later limited release had the markings for 203(?) squadron with the Panda and one other squadron that was pretty plain. I got a set from LSP Ron and built a bird using the Italeri kit.

As stated, Jennings was thinking about a set, haven't heard anything for a while...

Hi Don - very nice '104!! Your hints and tips ref sources of decals is right on the money, but being a self confessed "lazy modeller" I'd very much like my markings delivered on a plate by a specialist decal manufacturer - are you listening 'Two Bobs'?

JASDF '104s' enjoyed a great many 'special' marking schemes (broad bands of red, yellow, blue and orange e.g. TF-104DJ 46-5008 207 FS, 83 FW based at Naha in a light grey finish with 2 large orange bands fore and aft with orange wing tip tanks.) for exercises and DACT and it's these I'd like to put on my 2 seater - simple but quite striking.

I'm a patient man and I just know that as soon as I go to masks for what I want, a specialist will bring the exact sheet out, but hey that's life!!

I hear what you're saying, Steve!! I looked into all this when planning on the build, got lazy/discouraged and shelved the project. Got lucky and sourced some from LSP Ron. Would absolutely prefer ready to go decals. Two Bobs did do a nice sheet, though for 1/48 kits, would be nice to see it done in 1/32. Italeri was going to include JASDF markings in their two seater Zip, then things changed, got dropped. There are LOTS of colorful schemes applied to the JASDF single and duo zips, found some old Koku Fan books with many examples. A sheet of Squadron insignia/needed stenciling/non specific numbers would be most welcome.

Having had a quick look at the sprues on here for this forthcoming beauty, I don't think I saw any C 2 seat parts. I know the majority of European '104s' had the Martin Baker seats but if my memory serves, challenged as it is in my 70th year, I think Italeri included them in the G boxing? - correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway I'm really looking forward to this release next month!!

Looking at the sprues for the twin seater kit, the Lockheed seat parts are on the sprue with the drop tanks, which is shown as having 2x sprues in the box.
