Dukie99 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Next and last of my builds needing a rescue from the SOD is GMF Hs-129 B3 resin kit. This is a build where my enthusiasm collided with my lack of skills as this is a very challenging kit, with bare bone instructions, so reference material is essential. I also had one badly casted wing around the wing root. I was able to improve its shape but it is not perfect and I tired on sanding and reshaping and on the perspective of having to do a lot of rescribing. I will do my best to rescue this one but it will not be as easy as the A-10 or the Little bird. Since there is more than 3 months left in this GB, I probably have enough time to finish it. This is where she stands: Instructions: Reference materials Box shot Cheers, David LSP_Kevin, Alain Gadbois, Dany Boy and 4 others 7
BradG Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 This kit definitely needs saving! It looks like you've done most of the major work, just perhaps the engine nacelles will be a bit of a challenge, but I reckon you will be surprised at how your skills have advanced and how easy the work on this might seem. I remember a few kits that I've test fitted and put back in the stash because it looked like insurmountable issues with my current skills, only to come back a few years later to the same kit and the issue wasn't a problem to deal with. Can't wait to see this one finished.
LSP_Kevin Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Cool! I have this kit too, and look forward to seeing what you do with it. Kev
Thomas Lund Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Looks great and such an interesting aircraft - looking forward to following this. I can see that you should have bought shares in the putty company before starting :-)
Out2gtcha Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 I've got the same kit in my stash, and that Shatton barrel is a work of art in itself. Keep going!
imatt88 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Duke, any progress? I have the same kit, and it's on my shelf of Doom until I can muster the courage to finish it
Guest Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Mine didn't even make the shelf of doom. I sold it very soon after buying it - at a loss. An absolute piggy of a kit. No two surfaces lined up, fuselage was warped, the detail very soft indeed, the instructions very scant indeed. My advice would be to sell now before ZM's kit comes out. At least, I think it's ZM?

Same experience here, probably the worst kit I've seen in 1/32. Also add in oval tires, oval engines, mismatched surface details, etc - however the OP's kit does look a lot better than the one I was sent. Good job getting your kit almost done David, looking forward to seeing it completed! Edited September 14, 2017 by DougN Out2gtcha 1
Out2gtcha Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 My B3 isnt that bad, but Im holding out for the ZM kit. Im also not selling my GMF kit either.............unless someone wants to buy a B3 kit without the B3 parts, cause Im planning on grafting the GMF B3 canon, and breach parts onto the ZM kit.
LSP_Kevin Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 The one I have is a JRutman original, and while I haven't closely examined every part, it looks pretty good to me! Kev Rick Griewski and LSP_K2 2
Dukie99 Posted September 16, 2017 Author Posted September 16, 2017 Hi Guys, Thanks for following this. I see that a lot of you bought this kit, it is indeed an exciting airframe, a fully automated 75mm cannon on a small twin engine. This one is clearly resisting. Most of the time is spent on this kit last week has consisted of puttying, sanding, priming to check for flaws and repeat and I have therefore little to show for it. The good news is that I am getting very close to being done with the puttying and sanding. After these pictures I applied another coat of primer and I have three small areas that requires some more work and then I can start rescribing the areas where I lost the details. The next step will then be to glue the tail and the elevators and the gun gondola. The fit of the gondola is just so so and one side is wrapped/ poorly casted and will need to be corrected. I also needed to find a way to attach the gun in the gondola once the model is finished. I expoxied a piece of styrene fitted in the gondola. The gun fits in a hole I made in the piece of styrene. The fit is pretty tight so you can take the gun on and off and once the gondola is glued at the right place on the fuselage it ensures that the gun mouth is at the right distance from the nose of the aircraft. Thank you for following this build, hopefully more progress soon. Cheers, David Gazzas, Out2gtcha, BradG and 2 others 5
Gazzas Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 Keep it up, it's great progress. I don't have the kit, but love the shape of the plane and it's armament.
Out2gtcha Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 Looks great! That Shatton Bork canon IS the reason I bought the B3 kit. Its a little jewel. Keep going! Zero77 1
BradG Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 I find there's something oddly satisfying about sanding a model kit to death. LSP_K2 and Troy Molitor 2
