    Hi there!

I am a bit late, the EME was back in March, but now it's time to show you my photos of the large plane models. The was a surprisingly large number of LSP models this year, also a good number of newly builds. Even a whole Ju-88 diorama!

But let's start with some gossip

Revell: They had a booth for one day, but I missed them on that day. Too much other activities. So I was not able to renew the question for a new LSP kit by Revell or a re-relaease of the Ju-88 kit(s).

HMH Publications /Duke Hawkins books: Had a diner with the publisher at Bruxelles. Talking about some contributions to upcoming books as well as how to improve my photographs. Not to forget to taste a good share of Belgish beers (this was my part  ) (Heck, there are 1.200 different beers in Belgium!). Main news: HMH will come up with a Bf 109K-4 book at the release of the Kotare kit. 100 or so photos of different K-4, a lot of color profiles and so on. And with a set of large scale decals for the K-4, a la the Hurricane set. Side news: Another book about the 109 is pending. HMH would like to bring a book about the Fw 190 too, but they are lacking photos of an aircraft with a mounted BMW engine. Not on display stand, but bolted onto an airframe. Recent flying 190s are all equipped with Shevtsov engines, that's the problem here.

Copper State Models: Had a longer conversation with the owner. Well, the upcoming Hansa-Brandenburg (IIRC, not sure about the type) biplane looks very, very nice in the flesh. They had a 3D-printed prototype with them at the EME. The engine mold is at hand from another of the CSM kits. Talk about synergies. But, -but!- they just have to sell more of the older kits to earn the money needed to cut the molds for the new aircraft kit. It will come injetion molded as always by CSM, not 3D printed. The print was just the proof of concept for the new kit.
I did what I could and bought a Garford-Putilov kit with extras. The CSM owner did not hesitate to dive into his sources to advise me about the useful update sets for my preferred marking options and to tell me what AM is not needed too. I've also bought two sets of CSMs spoked wheels. No need to fiddle with PE spokes and tire halves, just ready to paint. Man, these are really, really nice wheels!
Insider stuff: Riga (Latvias capital) is not worth a visit. If you want to see the Baltic states, go to Tallin (capital of Estonia).

Next year the EME will become 25 years old! Don't miss to pay a visit!
That's it for the gossip. Photos next to come.

dutik got a reaction from Kais in Walkaround - Bf 109 G-2 detail shots - double feature
Another G-2 airframe. Built in Spain as a HA-1112M it served in the Spanish AF. After it's tour of duty it was sold to a private owner in Germany and rebuild into the G-2 configuration, airworthy. Then, no longer airworthy, it found it's way into the colletion of the german Luftwaffenmuseum Berlin-Gatow. The Luftwaffenmuseum tries nowadays to get rid of any military related historical items, focusing onto the Third Reichs crimes, so it was removed from the exhibition. Fortunatly they did not store it away elsewere or sold it abroad, but leased it to the private run museum at Rechlin. If you don't know the name - Rechlin was the test site of the german Luftwaffe before and during WW2. So it's still there to be visited, and displayed in a very favorable way:

Well, this is not quite the kind of walkaround you might be used to - glamour shots of the whole airframe from all around. This walkaround is aimed at the detail interested modelers. Lots of close up photos of all the details that are often forgotten by "classic" workarounds. Just what the doctor has ordered

Bf 109 G-2 from Dornier Museum at Friedrichshafen, Germany.

This was a spanish lizence build from 1947, written off after a landing accident. It had a decade at a playground, then went to Germany and was restored (non-airworthy) at MBB in the training of apprentices. don't forget to click the images to expand them. Enjoy!

    All-

I just got this little beauty in my hot little hands today, all the way from Russia via an intermediary from Romania I believe. I was able to order directly from KEP Models, and it took about three weeks to get here. Let's see what's in the box.

Oodles and oodles of darker grey printed resin, and it is absolutely beautifully cast. The structures that support the larger pieces are quite impressive:

The fuselage is molded into four main pieces; two tail halves with the horizontals already attached, and two almost complete fuselage halves.

The fuselage and tail interiors have locating pins, which is a nice touch. They are quite large, and the  fit is very tight. What's tricky is the break between the tail and the fuselage coes along side some beautifully cast stretched fabric, so care will be needed to maintain the texture and hide the seams.

The interior is fairly basic, but the structure provided on the walls in the cockpit is very nice. Some bulkhead pieces are included as well, which are quite nice. But here's a real gem for the interior, the instrument panel with attached throttle quadrant, complete with some very delicate and detailed levers.

Wings are each one-piece affairs, and they too have some nice molding on them with some subtle oil-canning:

Engine nacelles are also molded as one piece:

Speaking of the engine nacelles, the engines are absolutely exquisite. They feature some very fine details, especially on the crank case and piston heads:

The most important piece not to get damaged was the canopy, and I was fortunate there:

Two vacform canopies are included. Here we also see landing lights, and a sheet of protected acetate to make the side windows, complete with a sticker designed so you can cut out the windows from the sheet.

The other stabilizer is loose in the box, along with some other small bits. Speaking of bits...

Check out this fancy tail wheel, all one-piece:

Other small bits included the landing gear pieces, optional skis, landing gear doors (not pictured, were lose in the box), and a really nicely molded machine gun for the top of the fuselage.

Props, flaps, and bombs round out the bits:

The bombs are beautifully cast as single pieces with separate bomb shackles.

Decals are included for one option, with a color profile to aid in painting it properly.

Instructions are two sheets, with clear pictures of the assembly sequence so that you don't have to worry about reading the Cyrillic.

In it's trip from Russia, I only had one broken piece, which is a big surprise considering how brittle these 3D printed resin kits are:

Fortunately for me, this means I get to navigate the fabric texture and a panel line three times, rather than two like the rest of you.

That's what comes in the box, for roughly $106US shipped. I can highly recommend this kit, and anything else that KEP produces! This is a real gem.

I got it from SB at a discount because of the box damage. It's a BIG box.  I asked my 4 yr. old grandson if he'd carry it upstairs for me. He grabbed it, lifted it, and said then said I needed to take it.  Of course, you've already guessed it, I bought it, I wrapped it, etc. I was planning on purchasing the Kate model anyway, so when this showed up for a discount, I thought about it, and after a few hours, why not. I need to look at the figures kit, I'm thinking it may take several of those to make it look good.

Two new kits, both gifts from fellow LSP mates. Beautiful AM Avenger, and the great Hasegawa Tony. The first is from a member that will remain anonymous unless I hear different, the second is from Ruben (Firefly7). I had built the Tony before, but really hosed it up, so had been wanting another for a while. Thanks a ton fellas, great gestures from you two, and both kits are very much appreciated.

I stopped by my LHS yesterday during a quick break at work. They had a few kits set aside for me so I was happy to pick them up.

The YF-22 is for a project I'm working on, I need the burner cans/nozzles from it. I'm hoping they'll save me a some scratch building.

The Fisher kits came in from a  large collection of mostly 1/32 kits.  They knew I was interested in them so they generously held them for me and gave me first crack once they had a price.

Nendless to say it's most I've spent in my LHS in a long time. It's also one of the things that makes me glad to have a great LHS.
