A small amount of progress ...... the wife has kept me hopping around helping her set up Xmas .....think that is finally done.

Been working on the Aires cockpit set ....separating casting blocks from the parts ....

I have 2 of these F-4J/F-4S sets and both of them are missing a chunk of resin from the rear cockpit back wall behind the seat.
I guess those guys at Aires are consistent

I little patch with a piece of plastic and putty .....should not be noticeable with paint

    Pieces fit well together ....

Been working on the etched brass for the instrument panels ....punching out tiny disks with my punch & die set adding some knobs ......otherwise the instrument panels look too flat ....I took a pic and realized I have a couple of the new knobs laying sideways ...oops ! My eyes are NOT what they used to be. Will fix them over the next couple of days .....I used the smallest punch I have and the knobs look a little oversized ..... I can live with it.

    That's all for now
    Thanks for looking

Heater Ferris scheme .....intermediate blue .....blue grey .....2 other greys
Mig kill markings .....and a false canopy underneath ......and best of all ....a Phantom !

    Tamiya F-4J kit
    Zotz Decals
    Aires F-4J/S cockpit
    Eduard Brassin Wheels
    Rhino Models intakes
    AMS Resin Variable Ramps
    Exhausts from Ed Lorti
I have an F-4S conversion set coming from GT Resin

I did make an early start on the fuselage .....remove the kit intake areas to fit the Rhino intakes.... also cut out the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) doors.
You can see from the pics my effort at replicating some of the RAT structure ....still a WIP.

Anyways ...on to the pics .....

    I am in on this:
I decided to go with an Academy 32nd scale F/A-18D with an ATARS (Advanced Tactical Airborne Reconnaissance) conversion for the nose of the aircraft.

Subject will be a jet from VMFA(AW)-121 Green Knights, 2007, Al Asad Air Base, Iraq from Operation Iraqi Freedom. I will load at least 1 AIM-9L/M Sidewinder on the jet (group build requirement satisfied !!!).

Among many aftermarket bits and pieces I'll be using are the Flying Leathernecks ATARS conversion set and decal set for the markings. I have some other pieces from Flying Leathernecks (GPS dome antenna, blade antenna, AN/APX-111 IFF antennas, LAU-7/A-6 missile wingtip missile launchers, & Quinta cockpit 3D decals for the late Hornet.

    Weapons load will consist of 1 or 2 AIM-9L/M missiles, AIM-120 missile(s), AGM-65 missile, a BRU-33A/A dual rack launcher with 2 X GBU-12 bombs, a Lightning pod on the centerline, and 2 X 330 gallon wing tanks.

I am also entering this on another large scale modeling site for another group build running on the same time for a "Desert" build theme.

A few pics depicting the subject, though none are of the exact jet I am targeting:

As I get things going I'll start posting some pics of the build.

I loaded on 111's from 82-93 .....first time I ever installed a missile launcher rail (Aero-3B) was at Lakenheath around 83.
I also loaded them on 111's at McClellan (431st Test & Eval Sq from 86-89) and at Upper Heyford (89-93).
Always loaded captive AIM-9's or ACMI pods ..... never saw a live AIM-9.

Did load more than a few Durandals (BLU-107/B) at Lakenheath.

I see the 332 loadouts in the reference sheet provided by Dave Roof on the Flying Leathernecks decals.

I am partial to the GBU-12s vs GBU-38 as I loaded a crap-ton of 12's as an Air Force weapons loader.
Never saw a GPS guided weapon in my time. Weren't in our inventory between 84-93 when I was on the F-111.
