Thank you! It's a combination of different weathering layers... pre-shading, varying shades of camo colors, post-shading, chipping, pastel wash and salt fading... that contribute to the overall effect.

    Thank you so much Jeff!

Here is my attempt at the spectacular but very demanding Lukgraph kit. The model presents L75 from the first production batch of Tl type delivered in November 1915 to Pula naval base.
The kit is spectacular but some amendments were necessary imho - oil tank with installation, fuel lines to the carburettor, throttle control rods and a couple of differently led rigging lines. Also the kit options L127 and L135 should have Rapp engine - that was why I chose L75 which was powered by the Hiero engine included in the kit.
All in all it was a great modeling adventure and I do not remember building a more difficult model. Note that it is not a complaint about the kit, it just resulted from the intricacy of the Lohner flying boats structure.

This is my recently completed build of the 1/32 scale Trumpeter P-47D Razorback kit depicted as Lt. Frank Oiler's mount christened "Eileen" of the 78th Fighter Group of the 84th Fighter Squadron based at Duxford, England in 1944.  The list of aftermarket items is relatively short:

    1. Barracuda Studios P-47C/D Diamond Tread Main Wheels in resin
    2. BarracudaCals P-47 Thunderbolts Part 1 Decals for the Eileen artwork and maintenance stencils (Special Thanks to John Stambaugh!)
    3. Montex P-47D Razorback (Trumpeter) Super Mask set for the engine cowling checkers
    4. Yahu P-47 Early Instrument Panel
    5. Eduard P-47D-20 Interior for Trumpeter

The majority of the major markings were painted using custom cut masks.  The complete build can be found at:

its craptastic!! Can’t believe we wasted dead dinosaurs for this POS!! The leading edges make this absolutely unbuildable! Not enough rivets!! Nobody likes yellow wing aircraft anyway! What we’re they thinking? What we really need is a new Bf-109!! and why isn’t  this disaster in the new 1/35th scale??

Travel over the next fortnight means I won’t be able to work on the physical model. Fusion 360 has recently changed some of its parameters, so hopefully I’ll still be able to continue to work on the digital model.

Roughly cleaned up the verification print of the exhaust & test fitted it to the upper hull.

    Thanks, Tom.

The kit exhaust grills are greatly simplified. A more glaring omission is that they lack the clips/mounts for the tow cable & the mounting point for the rearmost track shroud.

So, up to the local garden tank for some reference gathering.

    Draw up the exhaust grill.

Check the profile to ensure accuracy.

Mirror, then print. Topmost is the kit exhaust, centre is the test print with no cleanup, bottom is the geometry blank.

    Thanks for looking in.

    Not exactly, but......

Most of you know that Harold of AMS Resin announced his retirement from resin casting recently, and that AMS Resin would close up shop as a result. However, Harold has been gracious enough to allow my wife and I to acquire all of his molds, masters, equipment, and his blessing to continue producing his great designs under our own business!

So, over the next month or two, we will be sorting through everything, cataloguing it all, getting set up, and casting some tests to make sure we can match the level of quality that AMS Resin delivered. We will also be adding some new items of our own design to the lineup.

While I’ve done quite a bit of casting for my own use, I have nowhere near the experience Harold does, so please bear with us as we develop our business plan and get things up to speed. As both of us have full time jobs (and I have a second part-time one), we will not be able to spend as much time on this as Harold did, so we will likely do it on a much smaller scale. Stay tuned, and I will keep you posted here as those decisions are made.

In the mean time, what you can do to help us is to let us know what AMS Resin items you would most like to see come to market again. As we sort through things, we will watch out for those items and make sure we give those a shot first. Feel free to post it here, or contact me via PM.

Once we get the business properly set up, I will provide a new e-mail for direct contact. Thanks a bunch, and a BIG thanks again to Harold for trusting us with his excellent work!

    At long last!

(This thread could be subtitled: The lengths I'll go to to avoid a natural metal finish)

Here is my rendition of P-38G s/n 43-2239 as it served in the 339th Fighter Squadron on Guadalcanal in early spring of 1943.  According to Michael Claringbould in his book "Pacific Profiles, Volume 9," this aircraft was badly damaged after a forced-landing following an attack against a floatplane base at Faisi.  The 339th ground crews towed it to the scrapyard where engineers from the 44th Fighter Squadron snatched it, brought it back to airworthy condition, and christened it "Old Ironsides."  Apparently there was something of a kerfluffle between the two units as the 339th later tried to reclaim the aircraft - no word as to who came out on top, but the aircraft was used as a hack at least until mid-1944.  From there, it fell off the radar and its final fate is ultimately unknown.  Claringbould's book features a picture of the aircraft after it was named by the 44th FS, but I don't want to post it as I don't want to run afoul of copyright issues.  In all my searches, I never found the second picture online anywhere and I suspect the original is in his personal collection.

In any case, if you were following the build thread for this, you know what an adventure it has been.  Most of that was due to my repeated, and uncharacteristic indecision.

This started life as the Trumpeter P-38L kit and it was my intent to build an ETO bird in natural finish.  But, I'd been sitting on the Grey Matter Figures backdate resin set forever and I knew if I didn't use it now, it'd go to waste.  Aaaand, I like the looks of the pre-J models better anyway.  So, with a little encouragement from @BiggTim, I decided to take the plunge and do the necessary surgery.  I've never attempted anything so dramatic before and it was one heck of a project that involved quite

    of

    surgery.

You can check out the build thread for most of the details, but as you can see, this was no easy feat.  While I'm very happy with the final results, I admit it is far from perfect.  Some components, particularly in the cockpit, I just couldn't backdate as I didn't have it in me to scratch build complex parts like instrument panels, gunsights, and other sundries.  That said, I'm quite pleased as this is as close as anyone is going to get to a pre-J model P-38 in 1/32 scale until Tamiya gets off their collective butts and upscales their kits (Dear Tamiya, I would buy several.  Just saying.)

Anyway, with this one done, I can now say I've done a heavy conversion (check that off the bucket list), and now I can focus on deep cleaning my model room to prepare for the arrival of the HKM A-20G.

    Enjoy the photos!

What would really set things off if Border or someone else would come out with a Val and a Zero[A6M2] in 1/35th scale ! Oh and also a Jake, that would at the very least take care of the Pearl Harbor line up[ I'd be happy as all git out over that!]. I have a separate shelf or 2 just for 1/35 stuff to kind of keep things separated.
