*COMPLETED* Trumpeter 1:32 P-47 Thunderbolt ‘Bubble-top’

Some progress this afternoon.

 

Painting has begun!

 

Just laid down some AS-12 as a primer/foundation. I'm going to use Humbrol Metal Cote as my NMF again as it worked well for me on my recent P-51.

 

 

 

Just the outside half of the wings so far. Need to work out the best way to mask up the cockpit. No spare cockpit transparency to 'cheat' with this model, so I'll have to do it the hard way!

The NMF is applied!

 

 

I can see some more seam work needs doing before I apply the olive drab glare-shield.

 

The photo makes it look worse than it is, but I'm still going to try and improve it further...

Looking good, aluminium but not polished, just right.

I haven't used Humbrol Metalcote for years, looks good and I have a few tins knocking about.

Yeah, they were in the kit - there was a smooth or perforated option.

 

From an accuracy perspective, I’m not sure I picked the right option for the actual plane I’m aiming to depict, but from an aesthetic perspective, I liked them better!

 

Remains to be seen whether I stick to that decision..

Awe, the tape job from hell, this is my least favourite thing about building, the ever incessant masking and taping. Sometimes drives me bonkers ….

Yes, and the annoying thing is, even with that level of masking, some errant paint managed to sneak in and under where it wasn't wanted!

I think you’d need less extended masking if you lower your air pressure. But it’s only me
