I agree and to be perfectly frank, it's been a blessing.

 

It's just a hideous waste of time. Reminds me of when I was hooked on flight simulators.... Years of my time wasted with absolutely nothing to show for it. Well, there was one this shining moment when I landed a F-18 on a carrier.... at night. But I digress. When I get back in I'm unfriending everyone except close friends, family and some scale model groups.

My current M.O. is to visit SIGs only. While I do check my "news feed" occasionally, I grow very weary, very quick of "this is what I had for dinner", and other mindless garbage.

I make my own stands too. I've posted these before, but all I use is a router.

Print the images on an ink jet, Elmer's glued to the base, drill a hole in the side

and bend a piece of acrylic rod after heating it in a frying pan with boiling water.

 

 

 

 

 

All 1/48 but obviously could be done in any scale.

The last shot , Balkencruez is made from 4 plinth

blocks I bot at Home Depot. Kinda fun and plan

to do more.

edit, oops , I also used a band saw to cut some of the shapes.

Seems I recall that you could buy a ready made mat (for lack of a better term) of different terrain like grass, dirt with small rocks and scattered weeds, etc. Searching for such things always gets me stuff for railroad scales. Did I dream this, or what?

No, no dream,. Doc Dave seems to use them a lot on his 1:32 WWI fighter bases.

I saw those but it seems that they're printed. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but what I was referring to is a ground base with everything already "planted". 

 

Now that I think about it, that's kinda crazy.

I think I'll just build my own.... in my "spare time".

Here’s a base I made from walnut scraps I pulled out of the dumpster at work. 
 

 

better angle and before I glued the patch on it.
