And after a marathon session last night - this thing is done and off the bench:

Overall - glad I built it and happy to have a 104 in the display cabinet, but the sloppiness of the Italeri kit makes the finish out maddening, and the decals, even though Cartograf printed, are rather thick. If I were doing this again, I'd strongly considering doing a West German one using Daco's huge sheet.

That's one great looking Starfighter..

Great build, lovely finish, and whatever problems the decals presented, they look absolutely fine in your photos.

Very comprehensive too.

Great work Matt!!!

What gloss clear did you use? And the final one?

Also what kind of the 1500 surfacer do you use? The bottle stuff or the spray can one?

Thanks in advance,

John

Gloss - Tamiya X-22 with a mist coat of Gunze Mr Leveling Thinner

Final coat - the new Tamiya Flat Clear (more semi-matte, plus AK Ultra Matte for the tip tanks.

Gunze out of the pot...try to avoid rattles if I can...

Matt, despite the issues you've had with this build, I think it looks utterly fantastic. You'd just never know it was a challenge at all. If it's not bound for a magazine, I'd love to publish it on the website.

Kev

Of course - just let me know what you need from me
