The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't, by subtracting where it is, from where it isn't, or where it isn't, from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance sub-system uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is, to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position where it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event of the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has required a variation. The variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too, may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows: Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is, however it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be, from where it wasn't, or vice versa. By differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was. It is able to obtain a deviation, and a variation, which is called "air"

There was no crash in the Mach Loop, the shut down of the low fly route was due to someone posting a video to social media of a pilot leaving the air space with a ‘little more flair’ than is allowed. Plus the use of the afterburners which is prohibited unless used to avoid an accident.

I don’t think anything has crashed in the specific route known as the Mach Loop. Certainly not in my living memory I was born and raised in the area. Plenty of others have crashed in the general area over the years but the only crashes I remember growing up there were a Twin seat Jaguar colliding with a little Cessna around 1991/92 on one of the specified routes into the low fly areas of North and  Middle Wales and 2 Hawks colliding on the coast of Wales in the late 1980’s. again not actually in the loop itself. The Mach Loop is just a tiny fraction of Low Flying Area 7 which itself basically covers the whole of Wales.

    ade,

Thanks for the correction, it jogged my now dwindling brain cells and yes it did not involve a crash. It may the Jag / Cessna event that I got confused with.

  3. Similar incident to the crash in Whales (Mach Run?) and the RAF stood down from that flying for quit awhile. Probably the same thing will happen here. Viewing area will probably be closed to the public when it resumes operations.

    Very sad news indeed.

  4. haha, no worries, it was a practical joke by the repair crew, they just positioned the letters with low-tack tape behind it, and were just watching me "driving away" with the car, so it was repositioned properly eventually, but the end of the story is that this particular type of car has a lot of motor management issues, but like i said i "love to hate it"....

    Jack,

What sort of motor management issues did you experience? I have a 2013 LR 2 HSE (aka Freestyle in Europe), same color as yours and so far the 2.0 T has been stellar. My only problem is that it has been used as a "target" a few times.

    Cheers
