Azgaron reacted to Grant_T in F-15c Desert Aggressor
My decals arrived so I can start! These are Two Bobs decals for the aircraft as it appeared after the 65th Aggressor Squadron was disestablished and the aircraft went to California.

Azgaron reacted to Robthepom in WnW Felixstowe - Finished Thanks
I actually enjoy rigging, I've built WnW Fe2 and gotha. I'm always suprised when modellers say they are 'scared' of the rigging, just buy a kit look at tutorials, its actually easy when you take your time
Did some woodwork on the trolley over the weekend, just for practice, I'll hairspray and paint Battleship grey, i actually dont intend to use the trolley, i plan to do infligth version on a U shaped acrylic stand
I'm not very happy with the oils on the top of the trolley, i got the direction of 'grain' wrong
The fuselage is actually not that big its the wingspan thats the spacer killer, but hey you know that already

Next up was a design for the Ruhrstahl X-4 missile's joystick control in the cockpit. This is just a piece of stretched sprue for the joystick itself, a small #9 shot of lead for the ball control it connects to, a square of styrene sheet for the box itself, an AirScale cockpit placard for the surround and some EZ Line for the electrical wires. I just drilled out the back of the box to accept the lead ball, then glued on the joystick:
Finally added to the IP, and IP glued in. The only thing left to do in the pit now is to get the Ruhrstahl X-4 elbow rest installed which will go on the starboard lower console:
Once glued in, all the work behind the IP is still visible, but its HELLA crowded back there now. Its still over-scale, but should look sufficiently busy once the windscreen is glued in, as the macro is NO ones freind:
Lastly for the weekends work, I finished off another Do-335 A-2 Trop mod, an exhaust shield for the front engine to keep the more forward positioned trop filter from picking up exhaust fumes. Its not 100% perfect, nor finished yet, but I tried to make it a flowing shape, and am to this point very happy with it:
Thats all for this weekend gents. I think I will attach the spine section to the fuselage and smooth that out, then will work on the 24 individual Quickboot exhaust stacks.
Thanks for looking in on me!

I got the wiring done behind the IP, of which there will be a surprising amount showing. There is the IP itself, and then an angled panel ahead of it that follows the contour of the base of the windscreen.
The windscreen got finished off with some various sizes of plastic rod for instruments in the back, followed by some yellow wire used for car spark plug wires. Yes, I know, its overscale, but I still think it will look good under the windscreen when done. The forward angled panel I painted raw aluminum for some variation, and used some EZ Line in bundles to busy that area up:
The angled aluminum panel went in first, as it dictates where the upper cowl/gunbreach panel sits, so I glued that in, then glued the top/gun breach panel in to that. You can see here I also glued in the forward nose ring, as it mates up to the top gun breach panel:
I then glued in the two gun cover panels. Both of the panels fit fairly well with only a bit of force and a tiny bit of CA to take up a very minor gap. Sanding still to come:

Thanks guys! That actually isnt bad news, as I changed my story to reflect Marseilles scheme change as a general tribute to JG-27s first days on the African continent.
In other news on the Do-335 front, thanks to our very own Mikkel (AKA Mebo here on LSP) I now have coming to me some absolutely gorgeous 1/32nd X-4 Ruhrstahl wire guided missles to hang under the Do-335 along with the small mods (joystick and elbow rest mainly) that go with the XRuhrstahls:
And the small dash mounted joystick to control them:
Thanks again Mikkel!

Azgaron reacted to wmoran in Bf 110D-3 III./ZG26 North Africa/Sicily
Here are some photos to show that I have been getting a little accomplished. I've also managed to lose several parts on this kit. First was the throttle console which flew off into oblivion when I was trying to bend the Eduard PE part to match its contours. I am working on my second scratch-built replacement. On this one, I think I will just use a paint marker to mark the grooves for the throttles, etc. Scribing the grooves didn't work very well the first time. I still have the Eduard PE pieces, but other than the levers, I am going to forego the PE for the throttle and use some Airscale placard decals and scratch-built details. The other part I lost was one of the MG17s. I have no idea what happened to it, but Shawn M (and Max, aka Mozart) offered to send me a replacement that he wasn't using.
Sorry for the lousy photos. I have been having to use my phone to take the pictures because my good camera is on the fritz. My lighting is a little bad because one of my light stands is out of commission. Thankfully, I do not have a dead cat, as his chewing is what put the light stand out of commission.
The seat harnesses are HGW, some from a set for a 2-seat Ar 234, and some from spares from other builds.
I've also got the instrument panel done, but the photo is so out-of-focus that I'm not going to post it.
Hope to have more to show soon.

Azgaron reacted to ringleheim in D-day markings confusion
If the 20th as a unit participated in the invasion, wouldn't they have had to have the invasion stripes? I doubt some aircraft in the unit had them but others didn't; anything operational probably would have gotten the paint job.
This is the kind of thing where it might be very difficult to prove what you do wrong, which helps!

Azgaron reacted to Juggernut in D-day markings confusion
Yes, P-38's would've been subject to the SHAAFE order and the stripes would've been applied. Morris was apparently shot down by the barbette guns from an Me-410 on July 7, 1944*. His P-38 would've been marked with full invasion stripes during the time of the invasion.

Azgaron reacted to LSP_Kevin in Rules of the Road
Welcome to the Ships of the Desert Group Build! This GB runs from 1 August 2018 to 31 January 2019, and encompasses aircraft and helicopters wearing desert camouflage. Aircraft operating nominally in 'desert' theatres or geographies, but not wearing desert camouflage, are not eligible. The scheme is the key criteria!
Standard LSP eligibility rules apply: the subject kit must be an aircraft or helicopter, 1/35 scale or larger, and be not more than 25% complete at the time of entering the Group Build.
Oh, and have fun!

Azgaron reacted to LSP_Kevin in Rules of the Road
Welcome to the Multi-Engine Group Build! This GB celebrates LSP's 20th anniversary, and will run from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2019. It's open to any LSP kit that has more than one engine.
The usual 25% rule applies, in that all entered models must be 25% or less complete at the time of starting the build thread.
And since this is a special Group Build, we've organised a number of prizes, generously donated by our vendors and sponsors (listed elsewhere). The GB is definitely not a contest, so the prizes will be awarded by raffle at the completion of the Group Build, with completed builds being eligible for the draw. More details will be forthcoming about this at a later date.
Note: to ensure that everybody who finishes a build gets a fair crack at a prize, each entrant will go into the draw only once, no matter how many builds they finish.
One last point: finished builds are uploaded by a staff member to the dedicated GB Gallery, so please don't post them in the RFI forum as well.
In the meantime, start planning your builds, and get ready for January 1!
