before joining the halves i made some intake trunking in bolth halves to prevent a see-through fuselage
granted, the mirage intakes are very small, but still a modification i wanted to do

Interior mostly painted and weathered. I kept weathering to a minimum. That was hard. …

    hi
excellent natural metal finish, not a shiny   aluminum, but quite dull according to an "operational aircraft  " finish..... well done

inbetween drying of the pit parts, i used the petals that Alain sent me with modified innards of the Zipper engine (i used a resin engine there) to get something to remotely render the Atar 9C

Yep, that was the hope... To capture that classic British cool and calm in the face of difficult times.  Same with the understatement of the thread title.  I envisioned a friend greeting his returning brethren and downplaying the danger just to help bring some levity to the situation.

    All,
After waiting for what seemed to be an eternity, the kit was finally released. I’ve wanted to do an Erickson Air Crane for the longest time, in a large scale. At the start of my journey, I decided to roll the dice, and see if I could get any information directly from Erickson HQ in Oregon. Not only did they help me get started, but they answered questions that I had along the way.
One of the main areas that I needed  help with, was the Fire Tank itself. They provided me specific photos I needed to get started on scratch building it. The next hurdle, was the orange color of their aircraft. To my surprise, they sent me the actual paint code for me to match.
These are the following items that were scratch built. The entire Fire Tank, the tool box/cargo container in front of the Fire Tank, the landing gear struts, (The kit comes with single wheels on the rear struts. “Bubba”, the aircraft I modeled, has dual wheels and the rear struts). The steps that go up to the tail rotor gearbox. I used everything from plastic card stock, to brass tubing to get the job done. The decals came from a company in Germany. They are fantastic.
It took quite some time for the scratch building. I learned a lot along the way. Erickson was a huge help in making this project a reality.

    Hi
For my part, I would do the "surgery" on the bottom,......... to be honest, I would catch up the fuselage/ nose profile with putty, it seems that there is barely 1mm (more or less) between the fuselage and the nose.. I  use for this kind of work, putty for body car repair  (finishing putty) easy to sand down, can be engraved, it's a bi -component,  putty  + hardener ... it could be worth considering

alain11 reacted to sillymodeler in Ki-61-I Hien “飛燕” in the Papua New Guinea (Hasegawa 1/32)
    Hello everyone.

This is my last finished 1/32 Hasegawa, Ki-61-I “飛燕 (Hien)”

I chose this model as I still wanted to explore metal cladding. Hien is a suitable aircraft for this purpose because it was shipped from the factory in bare metal and then various camouflages were applied by units. I used the usual kitchen aluminum foil and water-soluble glue for the metal cladding.
The hand-painted random camouflage applied to Hien is another attractive point for modelers. So, I hand-painted a crooked camouflage pattern on the fuselage and wings with an airbrush like a mechanic of the time. It was the most enjoyable thing in this build.  One of the advantages of metal cladding is that you can redo the camouflage paint as many times as you like.

Unlike other Japanese airplanes, Hien was equipped with a liquid-cooled DB601 engine produced under license. However, it suffered from low reliability and low mission-capable rates due to insufficient craft quality and frontline supply, and the inexperience of mechanics on liquid-cooled engines. However, as long as it was up and running, it performed as well or better than its elder brother Bf109E.

I adopted a paint scheme inspired by the 68th squadron that fought in Papua New Guinea. The squadron was one of the first to receive the newly developed Hien. Papua New Guinea was far from its homeland and probably one of the harshest battlefields in WW2. Many died not only from battle but also from starvation and disease as supply lines were destroyed. It is said during the war: “Java is paradise, Burma is hell, and you can't return home from New Guinea even if you die”. Actually, most of the members of the 68th squadron, as well as many other soldiers, are still lying there.

It’s basically OOB build. I just used metal gum barrels and pitot tube. The squadron marking is a combination of hand-painting and some extra decals. I also slightly modified Hasegawa’s lovely kit figure to one that resembles tropical pilot uniforms. (One more thing, I would like you to assume that my model is a reproduction of an aircraft whose tailwheel was lost in an accident on the battlefield. The tailwheel is still lying somewhere in my room.)

I hope you all enjoy the model. Sorry for my plastic cup as usual!

There was a hot "landing gear under weight" discussion when the Viggen was announced I remember and I was curious as well. Jetmads had assured it was alright. Looking at my Viggen I can say it is absolutely alright indeed, stands so firm it looks like it can carry two other Viggens on top of it. I don't expect that to be a problem.

for both the front fuselage has to be widened. i am not yet sure if i will do that on the top or the bottom, i have to fit the new windscreen first
see the step here to the old revell fuselage, since the noses are designed for the italeri kit

I made my pre-order yesterday .Regarding the weight of the kit , I hope that the nose gear leg, will be strong enough to support it..well .... let's trust to the Jetmad team to solve the problem

    Hi
it's a very nice little " vignette" , very realistic , the battle damages are well done , you got it !!! ..
the guy on the tail plane looks a bit "relax" compare to the dramatic moment depicted ,I presume it's the typical  " the Brit sense of  coolness "(or composure)

Hi, everyone.  I guess it's time to get my membership card to the Kotare Klub as there seem to be about a million of these in the WIP forum right now.

Since finishing my Corsair diorama, which took months, I wanted a quick, straight forward build as something of a palate cleanser.  My son said he thought it'd be neat if I did a Spitfire, I had the Kotare Mk Ia (mid) kit in the stash, I've never build a British aircraft before, and so, fate was decided.

I departed from my usual MO of recreating an historical photograph and decided to just do a fictional, but feasible scene.  I've wanted to depict battle damage on an aircraft since I was kid, but never really had the skills or practice till now.  So, being that this kit has a low parts count and went together really nicely, I decided it would be a good platform to try my hand at damage.  I thinned the interior plastic walls with a low rpm rotary tool, carefully punched and pried holes in the weakened area, then painted and streaked the area to look the part.

Aside from the rigging wire (EZ-line), figures (Black Dog Resin, out of the box), and the base (el cheapo panel board), the kit is presented out of the box.  I even used the decals in lieu of my usual gig of cutting masks and painting.  This experience reminded me that I'm way out of practice working with large decals, but after a few minor scares, they turned out okay.

This is a Spitfire Mk Ia of 610 Squadron sometime in the summer of 1940 before it was damaged beyond repair that August.
