EvilCarrot
Some in progress shots of of this Tempest I've been working on for a GB on Facebook. The theme is British aircraft in foreign markings, so I'm be doing a Royal Pakistan Air Force birdy. Except for a few styrene filler strips here and there I'm doing an OOB build. Wheel bay assembly is a mess and part H34 and H49 have shape issues. Despite what the instructions say I used the top part of the wing to align everything and that helped a great deal but there's a lot of sanding and scraping needed on the wings to get it all to fit. The "engine" is more of a placeholder but you won't see much of it anyway. I did drill out the plastic between the cylinders because that would be visible if I left it like that. Also needed to sand off the top of the exhausts to get it to fit inside the cowling. EvilCarrot
The cockpit on this kit is VERY nicely detailed! Once again there are some smaller fit issues but nothing too serious. Sadly, as usual, not much of it can be seen once the fuselage is closed up. The kit comes with a resin set for the left gun bay. Wasn't sure at first whether or not I was going to use it because "YIKES! Surgery!" but I was already moving my boundaries anyway so I pushed on. This big lamp-lump was in the way and I was constantly afraid I would cut through it at some point, had to remove quite a lot more than you can see in this pic. Out2gtcha
This looks wonderful! Sad to see the wheel bad fit issue, as I have this kit in the stash and am definitely looking forward to it. Will be following along! mark31 and CANicoll
EvilCarrot
It's a challenging build but I'm enjoying it immensely. Be sure to have enough sanders, files and carving stuff at hand when you start. Out2gtcha and mark31

Never mind what I said, this is a shake 'n bake kit compared to that. (P.S.: Finish it! ) KiwiZac
Iain
Nice work - great to see a Mk II being built! I started one a while back - and the gear bay assembly was OK on mine - just a lot of checking of part numbers/orientation against the instructions. I assembled each component onto the wing in turn, rather than glue the walls together first and then offer up to the wing - which is what it appears you've done here? Mark_C
I don't have the kit, so I don't know the part numbers, but another poster mentioned some wheel well parts were mislabelled by SH and that caused problems for him. You might want to check this against your assembly, because it might explain why the wheel wells were giving you problems: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=63026&page=9 MikeMaben and Kagemusha

You might want to check this against your assembly, because it might explain why the wheel wells were giving you problems: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=63026&page=9 I checked and mine are assembled correctly, the problem I had was with the parts John describes as "hard to fit right". The shape of parts H34 and H49 does not match the shape of the recesses on the lower wings. I did find two parts of the landing gear to be mislabeled in the instructions, though. These two parts seem identical but the lower rod is at an angle and the hydraulic cylinders have a flattened edge that is supposed to go against the front wall of the wheel bay. If you install them as the instructions say the flat edge is on the inside of the wheel bay and the angled rod does not connect to it's mounting point. Unfortunately I already assembled one of the gear legs when I discovered this. I'll just have to bend the rod slightly and it should be fixed, not a very big deal. sandokan and MikeMaben
EvilCarrot
Finally some new stuff to show. I'm getting ready to move by the end of the month so most of my time is spent preparing the new place. Anyways, I did manage to get some more stuff done. Bit of weathering in the wheel bays. Had to do some (re)scribing on the wheels where the casting block used to be. The cowling is a bit too high compared to the fuselage. I made sure the top part was flush and glued that in place first, after that had dried for a day a bit of firm clamping was needed in order to reduce the step at the bottom. The result can be seen a few pics below. The radiator intakes were a bit too wide on both sides. I decided the best place to remove some material was at the wing parts to the side of the cowling since there are no rivets there. Nearly done with the assembly, after that the sanding will begin. I already did a lot of filling with sprue goo beforehand, we'll see if it was sufficient. Didn't take any pictures of when I assembled the wings but I can say that a lot of careful clamping was required. Trickiest part was the area around the resin gun bay. Miloslav1956
Nice building. Unfortunately, some problems are caused by not following the instructions. The undercarriage binds to the upper wing and fits very well into the lower wing.I did the same at first and I had problems. The next ten Tempest, I've already built according to the instructions. EvilCarrot
Oh well, it was challenging but I managed to make it fit. How many are you building? You must really like the Tempest.
Out2gtcha
Great work! I ended up getting the Yahu instrument panels, which look wonderful. Ill be using this as a guide when I start mine. Model on! EvilCarrot and CANicoll
