Dukie99
Hi there, After finishing my second build on the Choppah GB, I needed to do something with fixed wings and since I had a PCM Spitfire in the stash, that what I will do. I have a few goodies to go with it but I aside from the Aber barrels which I will definitely use, I may keep the rest for another build as the PCM kit comes with a full resin cockpit and a nice fret of colored etch from Eduard. It looks like a simple build given the low parts count but I do not know how it fits. I have not decided on the scheme but I will do one from the box as they are attractive and the decals are from cartograph. Here are the box shot and the aftermarket: Thank you for watching. mozart
Good to see you David, and a completely different kit about which I know nothing, though I've got a PCM Hurricane. I'll be watching your build closely! Max

Shaka HI
Nice..how does PCM compare to Tamiya's? Anyone with any insights?

Dukie99
Thank you for the welcome. I do not have any Tamiya spitfire in the stash, so I can not really compare. However looking at all the great build of Tamiya spitfires on LSP, I think the PCM kit is at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of part count. I took a photo of the parts layout: Yep this all you get! less than 100 parts all included. As you see there is no engine. You have the option for clipped wings and two different types of exhausts very nicely cast in resin. It looks like a typical limited run kit with a bit of flash and no locating pins on the wings or the fuse. panel lines and rivets are nicely done. I cannot make any observation as to the accuracy of the kit as I know next to nothing on Spitfires except they that I love the lines. I have made some progress on the cockpit and will hopefully post pictures later on. Thank you for watching. BloorwestSiR
Shaka, as David mentioned it's simplified compared to the Tamiya kit. They take a bit more fiddling and test fitting but can build up very nicely. The MLG gear doors are a bit thick but some folks have used the spare ones from the Tamiya kit to replace them. Dimensionally, it's a decent match to the Tamiya as well. I took these a few years ago when I debated kit bashing the two kits together. Shaka HI
Roger that...I suppose this kit is out of production, because whatever I find online is very pricey.
Dukie99
I pretty much finished the cockpit. I finally used the Eduard etched belts as I thought they looked pretty good and also used the resin seat provided in the box. The barracuda seat looked pretty undersized compared to the seat provided in the box and did not fit with the rest of the cockpit, in particular the armor plate just behind the seat. I decided to go with the kit seat which did not look too shaby. We will see how all this fit together and it looks like most of the lovely details will be pretty much hidden. Here are the pictures of my progress so far: I have assembled the wings and the fit is pretty good, but there was a lot of sanding of the wheel wells to so that they would be thin enough to fit in the wings, but it all worked out. Some sanding needed on the joints but I am happy with the fit. I will post pictures of the wing later. So far this is an enjoyable build. Guest
Is that a YAHO IP or kit ? All looks very good !........Harv
Dukie99
Harv, This is the kit pit, which is a mix of injection plastic (for the bulkheads), resin (stick, rudder pedals, seat, side consoles) and colored etch (dials and seatbelts), all in the box and working pretty well together so far.
