But a tiny shame about that little paint peel, couldn’t be in a worse position for repair. That’s gotta be annoying. Er… I don’t worry too much about the peel. I can leave it off as part of the final weathering to come or I can repair it. A bit fussy but it can be done. More of a concern are the invasion stripes. Contrary to my usual ways, I slavishly copied the Airfix painting instructions, especially the roundel location instead of checking period photographs. Now if Airfix instructions are different from the real thing (even in the slightest manner), the resulting stripes wouldn’t be in the correct position nor would the codes. Well… live and learn, that’s the name of the game. In any way, you’ll be informed VERY soon Cheers, Quang Martinnfb and Stokey Pete
quang
Repair done. No more peeling Re-mask and white foundation added Yellow added Un-masked Done The codes are next. quang
“Like the pine trees linin' the windin' road I've got a name, I've got a name…” And the name is …FU*N like you already know it from the title of this thread. Still have to add the details to the Winnie the Pooh cartoon. Then some intermediate weathering before applying the D-Day invasion stripes. Until next time, Cheers, Quang Edited March 21, 2023 by quang LSP_Kevin, HB252, geedubelyer and 10 others

Contrary to my usual ways, I slavishly copied the Airfix painting instructions, especially the roundel location instead of checking period photographs. I'm confident that Airfix did a lot of research themselves and the instructions are a fair representation of what they found. The stripes and unit markings were applied in the field. Correspondingly, the precise details of location were likely to have been down to the bloke that was given the job of applying them. The stripes would have been "just good enough" due to the amount of time available and the number of aircraft to be painted. A photograph taken at a moment in time but should not be considered as representing the squadron down the road. There are even anecdotal stories of stripes being applied with a mop. I'm enjoying watching your work !
quang
Thank you for your comment, @Duncan Doenitz. For my sake, I should have been more explicit. The plane I’m depicting did not have their invasion stripes as per regulation as can be seen of this photo. To reproduce the plane on the photo, I need a landmark on which to base my stripes and codes. For this I chose the fuselage roundel and its location as indicated on the Airfix instructions. This would be my anchor. What I meant is that if the anchor is not good, everything else which follows will be wrong as well. Duncan Doenitz
Ahhhh, got it. I suggest you assume the duck egg green band is the standard width then measure the distance to the rear of the canopy. That will then give you the width of the stripes and an approximation of the roundel centre. The wing stripes look huge but it's a photo and therefore accurate for that aircraft. I airbrushed the Mr Colour duck egg green last night for the first time. The paint looked very wet but it has dried beautifully. Strangely, it has an eggshell finish
quang
INVASION TIME! The D-Day stripes are on. They were wider and located differently than per regulation and thus IMO added a lot of character to the build. Still a lot of weathering and patina to do but you get the idea. Hoping you like the photos and thank you for watching. Cheers, Quang Landrotten Highlander, kkarlsen, HB252 and 18 others
mozart
Loving it ALL Quang old chap, super-duper Spitfire. Almost, I said “almost” (but not quite) makes me want to consider 24th scale…..perhaps that’s all a sign of the slide into really old age……. (Oh, I forgot, I’m older than you!) Tolga ULGUR
Very nice. But I am still waiting for an after market seat to start. It seems that Barracudacast will produce something for this kit. Martinnfb

In retrospect, I think that the stock seat was not that bad considering that most the rather flat back will be obscured by the Sutton harness.
