Shawn M
I looked into it, but yikes is that a pricey bit..looks so so nice though. Im trolling e-bay for spitfire parts.
geedubelyer
Hello Ray. Did you manage to swap the parts for the cannon armed grip? It would be great to see any progress you may have made. Cheers.
LSP_Ray
OK, where was I? Sorry for the delay, Real Life got in the way: windows leaking in one place, second place flooded, and the wife is now undergoing chemotherapy. Still trying to finish my first book, too. Anyway, trying to get some work done on it. I am swapping the MG armed spade for the cannon-armed one. It is a little more classic Spitfire, in my opinion. Note I have also sawed the short post off. That is really a Hurricane style where the spade is on a tube. The Spit sits on an open trapezoidal-shaped arm. Will have to scratch something up. LSP_Ray
Here is the worst part of this kit. It is supposed to be a sheet metal clamp that holds the gun camera switch. It is really thin and brittle. On both my kits (MG & cannon) it was broken during transit. Also, you are supposed to glue the piece that holds the button to the inside edge. Even by following the instructions, suggesting a pair of pins, it would be a very weak point. It would easily get broken during assembly, or by handling. So I got out the Dremel and ground it off. While I had the Dremel out, I also ground out the openings for the pneumatic piping. Probably going to need to clean those up a bit, but you get the idea. LSP_Ray
To replace the clamp, I made a paper template before grinding it off. I then transferred the template to some sheet aluminum. I cut out the two halves and drilled the necessary holes. Here they are all cleaned up. I then worked them around the handle, and using some hardware that matched the kits, fastened them together. And here they are ready for paint. Zero77, Whitey, Shaka HI and 1 other
LSP_Ray
I also thought instead of using the provided cable that you are supposed to paint like brass tubing, why not use real brass tubing? So I got some soft tubing and here is a length in place in one of the slots where it is visible on the real thing. I will put another piece in there (maybe two more) to finish that off. Hopefully it won't be so long before my next update! Shaka HI, Zero77, Whitey and 1 other
LSP_Kevin
Terrific work, Ray! Looking great so far. Fingers crossed for your wife too, who is obviously much more important than this. Kev geedubelyer, Bill_S and Shaka HI
mozart
Very impressive Ray, I like the "multi-media" part of the build, it should look great with some paint on. Hope all goes well with Mrs Ray. Max
