ericg
Some more updates for you guys. The RAAF Mirages had a clear protective coating painted or taped (not sure on this one...Sean might recall this) on the leading edges of the flying surfaces. I simulated this by masking it off and giving it a few passes with a very thin mix of smoke. It shows up a little too dark in these pics but it is just the way the lighting is contrasting the flat cam paint and the glossy smoke paint. It will all flatten out with a coat of clear. The cover for the brake parachute was painted in squadron colours that matched the tailfin. I think I used most of the reds and oranges in my paint drawer to try and get the colour `Jaffa' just right. The black cover of the doppler radar was simulated with Gunze Tyre black. This pic also reveals a bit more progress on the nose gear. Only a small update for today as I have been flat out casting Mirage parts and now have a pile of resin that you couldn't jump over (am midway through a production run), AND have to study (BORING!) for my once every three months simulator session, hence the pic below. ericg
Here is another update. I have been wondering how I was going to accomplish the gun troughs and cannon barrels on this model for a while. I did have a go at them early on in the piece but found the small blast deflectors were too easily broken. Better off to do it now that I have painted the model and touch up as required. Here is the bare trough ( notice I have started to paint the lip of the intakes as well): A small piece of metal from the Milo tin Membrane (handy stuff!) I then burnished the small piece of tin into the rough shape with a cut off cotton bud (you can see that I have already had a practice with the starboard side) The part is then cut further to shape and then slid into position. Here is the cannon barrel glued into position. I just need to add the deflector rings to the metal part that I have added. What you lookin at? Azgaron
That thin layer of smoke looks great and the gun throughs too. Nice work Eric! HÃ¥kan
Aerobat
Continually amazing project! Most models suffer under close up photos that may point out any small imperfection. Your Mirage just looks better. Gary a PM sent

Piprm
Eric, This Mirage you're building (and engineering) ,,, is no 'mirage' ..... ... It is 'clearly' Superb! All Future Mirage builds... will now have to hold this, as the high-water mark to aspire to! Bravo - my friend! Phil
Anthony in NZ
Eric, that is amazing mate, I love the Mirage and have memories of being at an Airshow in the 70's at Wigram and the Aussies came and did a simulated attack in Mirages. I remember the fast delta shapes and sound.......but mostly I remember crying! ......I was pretty young then........honest! But great to see someone do this bird justice in 32nd, good job Cheers Anthony Edited November 15, 2013 by Anthony in NZ
hamfists nz
I remember the 75th..? Anniversary airshow at Whenuapai when the big 3 came over in a surprise arrival formation; F111, Mirage and Hornet..made an awesome sound! A real growl but one of them making a sort of "blue note" hum. I had a look in the mirage tailpipe later and I remember being surprised there was quite a bit of surface corrosion..think I was about 10.. ericg
Here is the completed gun troughs. I was really chasing something that was a bit stronger than my first attempt at the blast deflector disksas they are a rather fragile part of the aircraft. some small disks were punched out of plastic card with the Waldron punch set. Holes drilled to accept the disks that have been cut pretty well in half. Blast deflector disks in place Primed Painted
