1/32 P-51D Tamiya

Hmmmm....the part that I'm finding very interesting is the separate engine/forward fuselage and the separate empennage.... That leads me to think they've engineered this kit to be modified into a B/C at some point in time.

Oh man................if.........and I mean IF this is the actual kit version of the wing there are going to be SO many people up in arms. I would guess.

Cause im going to build the HELL out of this thing........even the OTHER "shape of contingency" look as if it has been dealt with; AKA the forward top panel of the cowl from directly behind the prop, to before the windscreen where it takes on a more rounded shape. All other manufacturers seem to put more of an odd rounder shape to this whole forward part, but looks like Tamiya got it right:

To do the P-51B/C requires totally new fuselage centre section as mentioned, plus new tail, and new nose sections, plus the new wing, and new internals etc. There were many differences. But I hope it will be done.

I also like that the entire windscreen seems to be moulded with the fuselage parts, unlike their 1/48 and 1/72 where one had to glue the clear to the solid parts.

This looks great. Really amazing.

Moeggo,

Is there any chance your friend could snap a closeup of the wing sprue? :please: I think that if there are rivets, that they will be much more restrained on the production kits.

I think that Mr. Tamiya and his company have knocked another one out of the park here.

I see the discussions are heating up over at HS about the wing.

Personally I dont care if there are very very fine rivets on it, especially if it is anywhere as fine as the rivets on the Spitfire fuse etc.

The reason I bring this sensitive topic up (not for an argument) is because many Mustangs had this 'knifing compound' removed due to crazing under load conditions during service. I have seen the directive paperwork from the RNZAF ordering the removal of this and a respray of High Speed Silver with a heavier application around the panel lines. I have seen the remains of several unrestored wings/wing sections and seen this crazing/cracking on the wing, funnily though, you could still actually make out rivet detail. Actually it looks like when you have a paint reaction on a model and the 2 layers have shrunk at different rates causing big long (reasonably deep)cracks. The wings that were stripped and resprayed showed all panel line and rivet detail clearly as you would expect.

So for me, it is not a problem if there are very fine rivets. For me it is easier to spray Mr Surfacer on and rub it back than to try to rivet an entire wing. Look at all the good points like cockpit, canopy, tail unit and other extra options.....

Please no one take this the wrong way or turn it into an argument, I am just giving my observations for general interest and have purposely kept out of all discussions/arguments on other forums. I mention it here as we are a lot more inclined to civilly discuss these things.

On a side note, does anyone see any rocket stubs for under the wings?

Cheers

Anthony

I'll judge the final product. Anyway a small amount of Mr Surfacer should do the trick.
