That diorama in 1/32 would cost about $6,000, 4 years build time and then the divorce and alimony costs following that!

    Kind regards,

    Paul

Reminds me of the quote I gave about opening a safe.  I quoted 12 years - 5 minutes to break into the safe, the rest in the nick...

I'll grab me coat mesel', thank you....

It was quite a ride, but I have a Malcolm Hood mechanism to show you.  This is what I am trying to represent:

The chains, the emergency release pushrods, the sprocket support fittings, the crank handle, the emergency release handle, and the black cover plates.  Not the cross-tube.  That comes later.

First, just as what happened so many times back in the 1940's when -B's and -C's were getting their hoods, I had to relocate the recognition light switch box on the windshield frame.  From here:

    To here:

Had to be done to clear the new crank handle.

All the parts printed up pretty well.  There is alot of small detail, especially the chain itself, so I went with the 3 micron thickness setting on the printer (I normally use 5 micron).   After careful removal of supports, and carefully painting, I got this collection of details:

The black plates are not 3D printed - just old fashion scratch build.

Ok that was the easy part.  Installing these details into the airplane was hard - a most stressful and "stimulating" experience, trying to pry into a small space all these parts without breaking anything.  I broke one of the chains, but had a spare and used it.   Everything else worked out OK.  Pictures:

The 3D printed chains are a success, I am happy to announce.

Let's see the finished mechanism in the fuselage jig:

I need to do a better job painting up the rollers - I know.  But that comes later.  Glad to put this sub-project in the rear view mirror!

Next I believe is the lower radio floor and the fuselage tank.  I've been waiting forever to get started on that.  Hope you like the chain drive!  Later.

I think I shall be taking up knitting (throws toys out of pram...)

    seriously though, amazing work

  3. Tough one, as there are so many.

    However, I'll go for:

    1) Mosquito - When my late Father went through his National Service in Belgium, he was able to fly as passenger with one of the Belgian fighters who fought against the Nazis from British soil.  Funny anectdote: he first asked where my Father lived, then proceeded to fly overhead where my Father saw his mother hanging up the washes.  The pilot then proceeded to show my Father where he lived (the other side of the Country) where he invited my Father to visit town (while still in the Aircraft...)

    2) Diamond Aircraft Da 62 for its sleek, sexy lines and modern avionics (not to mention the comfort and ability to take on 6 passengers)

    3) Aermacchi M-346 Master Fighter Trainer to keep with twin engines but move to more speed...

  4. I had a parcel sent to me from Eastern Europe some time ago.  Had to wait for 59 days (tracking showed parcel stuck in Ankara) when the postman handed me the parcel (tracking still showing stuck in Ankara).

Just last November I ordered 2 books from Japan and had them sent to my Mother in Belgium.  Paid import duties in January and am still waiting to be delivered...

so you guys are not alone, and all we can do is attempt to be patient.  As they said in Shogun: try to hear the rocks grow  :mental:

  5. perhaps this is a stupid idea, but what about putting the paint in the refrigirator (i.e. where you keep your milk and foodstuffs you plan to eat quickly, not the place where you freeze the things)?

Perhaps that will slow down the chemical reaction that leads to the passage of shelf-life-time-thingemything?

  6. Hi Thierry,

tried to send you a pm, but it looks like your inbox is full?

here is waht I attempted to message to you:

I realise you have already made some inroads into this build, but I was thinking the following:  I am studying for a BSc in Computer Aided Design and have acces to Solidworks until next summer.

If you want I can create some printable files for you of the more challenging components?

Thanks but I'm not sure you should thank me as this thread will look like a welcome to the madness club! Finding information about that version is really difficult to say the least. And the interior is a real modelling challenge. :blowup:But this is a big part of the fun: finding solutions!

I do not mind getting membership of the madness club - in fact, some people might say I got automatic membership at birth :D
