I love the aircraft to, it’s just soviet coolness. Excellent modelling. Those exhausts are very convincing

Stevepd reacted to Iain in Flying Start Models Slingsby T.31B - RAF Air Cadets
Mainly looking at photos this afternoon - and deciding which airframe to do.
One important factor is the kit provides alternative winch-launch hook positions - and I wanted to choose a subject where I could clearly see te position on that particular airframe.
Added to that, I wanted to do a red/white/grey scheme - as most were in those colours back when I was a cadet.
XE799 on the instructions looked good - and I found a clear image confirming details.
Decision made:
Image from glidingheritage.org.uk
So - rear hook mount filled with superglue and sanded back:
Front mount masked with Humbrol Maskol.
Elevator - previously removed from tailplane - re-attached at an angle - more representative of an airframe on the ground.
I believe Tim has modified the kit so these items are no supplied as separate parts.
And the cockpit all masked up:
So, with a few attachment point also masked up with Maskol, we're ready for some white primer:
And it looks like I'm out of automotive white primer - so may have to do some shopping!
More when there's more...

Back on the T.31 - and more progress...
The holes at front and rear of the central wing joint have been opened up with a 1mm drill bit, in a pin vise, and short sections of 1mm brass wire (supplied with the kit) cut to act as additional alignment - details are in the instructions.
Ailerons: holes in wing and ailerons opened up with a 1mm drill - and sections of 1mm diameter brass rod bonded to the ailerons, before trimming to length:
Assembled wing, using superglue - and access wiped away after drying using de-bonder. Ailerons are dry fitted at present:
All good!

Stevepd reacted to airscale in New airscale products - Prop Logo's and re-mastered full colour RAF Instruments
Hi everyone
I have a bunch of new products coming out in the next few weeks and the first two are ready to order
First up, Prop Logo's
1/24 @ £10.95
1/32 @ £9.95
1/48 @ £7.25
Each set includes:
Individual Propeller manufacturer logos and specification decals in 1:48 scale are designed for kit, modified or scratch built models and represent many prop manufacturer logos found on piston powered WW2 military aircraft
Suitable for both Allied & German aircraft, featuring manufacturers like Hamilton Standard, Rotol, DeHavilland, Curtiss, Aeroproducts and VDM.
Each logo is separate on the decal sheet with a minimum of carrier film
Fully illustrated instructions
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
...and also as our RAF set was one of the first sets we ever released, I wanted to remaster them with additional instruments and most importantly in full colour, these have come out really well..
1/24 @ £8.25
1/32 @ £7.25
1/48 @ £6.25
Each set includes:
Instrumentation as found in the Spitfire, Hurricane, Mosquito and common to most RAF types
Instruments for flight control, navigation, engine, oxygen and ancillary management
Each instrument is separate on the decal sheet with a minimum of carrier film
Includes a small sheet of optically clear replacement simulated instrument glass
Fully illustrated instructions
I hope they are a welcome addition to our hobby
Next week will see two more new releases in the 1/24 Harrier GR1 / 3 PE panel & decal set for the airfix kit and the 1/18 Fw190-A8 PE & Decal cockpit upgrade set for the Hobbyboss kit, shortly followed by a range of Seat Belts for RAF, USAAF & Luftwaffe aircraft in 1/32 & 1/24
busy times
All the best

Stevepd reacted to Daywalker in The ‘Viper’ pit - A short break to build other stuff.
Bravo Pete, you really have your hands full with this many Vipers at once! I did two at once, and that almost caused me to take up knitting.
I'll be watching this thread, some excellent choices with the markings.

That would look good in various states of zinc primer, akin to an assembly line. Just picked this thread up and it’ll do wonders for the year book 2022!, when the rest of us are putting up 2 or 3 kits. Is this the modellers version of “dropping the mic”

Stevepd reacted to Stokey Pete in The ‘Viper’ pit - A short break to build other stuff.
I’ve decided to go the opposite way. I’m starting with the complex first. My rationale is that if I start with the most difficult while my mind is fresh. I’d hate to get the ‘easier’ ones done and screw up the tough ones from feeling jaded, or a desire to rush to the finish line.

You have a great wife, mines a bit like that. She even showed interest in the 32nd P-3! Maybe she was humoring me...

i can partially blame my wife for the ever expanding set. She spots a good looking paint scheme and says “do it”. How can I refuse such an order.
That said, 6 is the end of it. I’ve put my foot down and said no more…….honest.
With 2 already on the shelves, I think 8 is plenty.

Stevepd got a reaction from MikeC in 1/32 BAe Harrier GR.5 ZD318 "first flight"
What a great rendition of the aircraft. I was at Boscombe Down when ZD319 “the grey one” when it came for testing. It definitely felt like a new era was upon the RAF, super modern shape and thinking. This is why I’m keen for a copy of the resin parts before I get too old…. Nope there we are.

My 3822 shows I joined in Sep 81. Glider flying shows:
XE901, Mk3 Aug 82
WL990, Z-bird, Aug 82
XE800, Mk3, Aug 82
XA309 or 7, Mk3, Mar 83
XA302 Mk3 x 2 trips, Mar 83.
I recall the Z-bird trip. We went into the smoke of a burning field and came out over 4000ft. Pilot was really please, something to do with his log book. I remember spoilers being deployed as what seemed a vertical decent. Loved gliding apart from cable release, which I never got used to.

Stevepd got a reaction from Iain in Flying Start Models RAF 1000lb Free Fall Bombs
I’ve got his CBLS set and it’s top notch stuff.
Now let’s talk SNEB rockets, or is JP233 a dirty word……
i’ll get my coat (dropping the mic I believe the yoof call it).

Blue skies!

Stevepd reacted to MikeMaben in Kotare 1/32 Spitfire Mk.Ia (Mid), with Mk.I (Early) and Mk.Va announced
One of their stated goals was to keep the cost down as not to frighten away non-LSPers.
Cockpit looks nicely detailed so they're likely leaving out things that can't be seen when finished.
Getting an engine in there doesn't look like an easy job.

I forgot to point out that with the change in subvariant comes a subtly different box top:
