firefly7 reacted to Bill M. in HpH- Infinity 1/32 Nakajima B5N2 Kate—First Impressions
I received my HpH- Infinity 1/32 scale B5N2 Kate by way of Hannants in the UK. I also received the extra 3d printed cockpit, engine and bomb sets.
As I promised, a few observations—
Overall, I am quite pleased. The level of detail is excellent. I am quite pleased by the surface detail— as good as I have seen. It is very complete, yet restrained. The interior detail looks to be excellent and complete, even if using the kit parts over the 3d printed parts. The same with the engine— The kit parts will look quite adequate when used and built in my humble estimation. The exception is that the 3d printed propeller hub looks to be a clear improvement over the kit part. If you don’t want to purchase the 3D printed engine set, I wonder if the excellent Barracuda propeller hub for the Infinity Val kit would work on the Kate kit? Hmmm??
The 3d printed bomb looks nice and nicely represents the bomb carried and used by some Kate’s at Pearl Harbor, including Commander Fuchida’s Kate “A1-301”, markings for which were provided in the kit. The kit provides a torpedo as its only provided load as far as I can see.
Some trial fitting shows that the resin parts seem to be straight and fit well. there will need to be attention to the various seams due to the trimming of the resin parts— just the nature of the beast. I did notice on my kit that the right-side trailing edge of the fuselage, where it meets the right-side upper wing appeared to be over trimmed. I figure this will require some careful filling to correct. The left side appears fine.  I don’t know if this issue is just my kit or is characteristic of all.
Overall, this is a very nice kit in my estimation. It should build into a very nice representation of the B5N2.
No doubt, some will ask how it compares to the Border 1/35 kit. I can’t answer that, as I don’t have the Border kit. I bought this kit because it is 1/32 scale. After receiving it, I am glad I did.

Apparently Polish wings are going to 3D print the PZL M-20 Mewa (The licensed version of Piper’s Seneca) in 1/24, 1/32,1/48 and 1/72.  I’d love to see this as I like civilian subjects.

I am not a FaceBook user and I am unfortunately not able to find how one orders from Polish Wings. Have they brought any of their designs to market yet? Last year they had a Wilga in process (another design I would like) and I saw 3D prints of components but it has gone awfully quiet since.

    Kind regards,

Excellent manufacturing as usual but why not considering a topic such as the He 280? It is very similar to other kits you released. That one flew, was the first true Luftwaffe jet fighter and is totally forgotten by all manufacturers in large scale?

firefly7 reacted to Tony T in 1/32 F-4 canopy detail set
Assuming you are building a Tamiya F-4, don't forget to keep the inter hood arched part — it's not in the Aerocraft set as it didn't need replacing.

Seats are a personal thing; some like a multiplex of resin tagliatelle to paint, others a cleaner etched strap approach, so no recommendations.

If you like detail the ResKit pylons and tanks are essential.

This is still a work in progress because, like everyone else in the known universe, I took pix of the prints with my phone but now my phone is refusing to send the photos to anyone else.  I have considered fine tuning it with a ball peen hammer but will pursue other solutions first.  For background:  There are 36 prints in all.  Most are in decent to excellent shape.  Most are modern equipment, mostly Navy, but there are a couple of tracked vehicles in the stack.  In some cases, I have duplicates.  Nearly all can be rolled and sent in mailing tubes.  There are a few that are dry mounted which may be problematic.  Subjects include the Blue Angels, RA-5C, Harrier, C-130, SR-71, OA-4M, a couple of Cobras, and some other stuff.  I also have several original drawings that I might let go as well.  Hoping to make some progress with emailing the pix in the next day or so.  Patience is a virtue and all that.

A surprising number of you good people have offered to take prints off my hands.  I think I have found them all - but maybe not; still cannot find the Jim Deitz prints, but that is beside the point.  I took phone pix of each print yesterday and will send them to all who replied in the order I received your responses.  Be patient; this may take a while.  Check your in boxes for PMs from me.  Thanks to all who responded.  I’d much rather give these things away than to trash them.  I’m finding that my kids have little or no interest in things I have accumulated over the years, so don’t be surprised if I find other stuff to give away at some point.

Not sure where/how to do this.  We are downsizing, which means we have lots of stuff that needs a new home.  While rummaging here and there today, I discovered that I have squirreled away several very nice - meaning well done and in great shape - aviation fine art prints.  Some are signed by the artist, others are signed to me by the artist and the rest are just decent prints.  Mostly Keith Ferris, a couple RG Smiths, some of my own, and a handful of dogs and cats.  Mostly modern jets, I think.  None of my kids or grandkids want any of it and if none of you all want them, they will soon grace the local landfill.  They are free to whomever might want them and, depending on where you live,  I might even pick up the shipping tab.  PM me and we will work out some photos for your review.  Oh!  And I also have the full size fuselage template set from the plans for a Rutan Long EZ if anyone is interested.

    All-

I just got this little beauty in my hot little hands today, all the way from Russia via an intermediary from Romania I believe. I was able to order directly from KEP Models, and it took about three weeks to get here. Let's see what's in the box.

Oodles and oodles of darker grey printed resin, and it is absolutely beautifully cast. The structures that support the larger pieces are quite impressive:

The fuselage is molded into four main pieces; two tail halves with the horizontals already attached, and two almost complete fuselage halves.

The fuselage and tail interiors have locating pins, which is a nice touch. They are quite large, and the  fit is very tight. What's tricky is the break between the tail and the fuselage coes along side some beautifully cast stretched fabric, so care will be needed to maintain the texture and hide the seams.

The interior is fairly basic, but the structure provided on the walls in the cockpit is very nice. Some bulkhead pieces are included as well, which are quite nice. But here's a real gem for the interior, the instrument panel with attached throttle quadrant, complete with some very delicate and detailed levers.

Wings are each one-piece affairs, and they too have some nice molding on them with some subtle oil-canning:

Engine nacelles are also molded as one piece:

Speaking of the engine nacelles, the engines are absolutely exquisite. They feature some very fine details, especially on the crank case and piston heads:

The most important piece not to get damaged was the canopy, and I was fortunate there:

Two vacform canopies are included. Here we also see landing lights, and a sheet of protected acetate to make the side windows, complete with a sticker designed so you can cut out the windows from the sheet.

The other stabilizer is loose in the box, along with some other small bits. Speaking of bits...

Check out this fancy tail wheel, all one-piece:

Other small bits included the landing gear pieces, optional skis, landing gear doors (not pictured, were lose in the box), and a really nicely molded machine gun for the top of the fuselage.

Props, flaps, and bombs round out the bits:

The bombs are beautifully cast as single pieces with separate bomb shackles.

Decals are included for one option, with a color profile to aid in painting it properly.

Instructions are two sheets, with clear pictures of the assembly sequence so that you don't have to worry about reading the Cyrillic.

In it's trip from Russia, I only had one broken piece, which is a big surprise considering how brittle these 3D printed resin kits are:

Fortunately for me, this means I get to navigate the fabric texture and a panel line three times, rather than two like the rest of you.

That's what comes in the box, for roughly $106US shipped. I can highly recommend this kit, and anything else that KEP produces! This is a real gem.

Near to my heart is this kit from Revell. I built it as a kid around 1975 and it held the title of my only completed LSP until the Fury in 2017 (which my last one). So, for fun, I thought I would pull this up from the bottom of the stash, let it pass many other projects ahead of it in line,  and take a shot at it. A few videos on the Blue Angels of that Phantom era got my juices flowing. Did you know there have been 26 fatalities flying for the team over the years? With only 260 pilots ever flying for them, that's 1 in 10! These are brave, brave men.  Further, I'm a fan of the team having seen them many times over the years (I live 10 minutes from Brunswick Naval Air Station (now decommissioned). .

This is NOT a serious build and some will find this almost incomparable to the the Phantoms others are doing here. Hats off to them.

There are many issues with the kit as can probably be attested my many here, but I'm not going to get to into this other than the cockpit which is truly scary weird. Why not just get the Tamiya kit? Well, like I said, I just wanted to go back memory lane with this kit, though I do harbor thoughts, I'm wasting my time. Ha!

Here's a bunch of shots of the real thing. Beautiful! It was not a great Blue Angel and though tolerated, the pilots were disappointed to lose the more agile F-11 Tiger and after enough crashes they 'went back in time and selected the A-4 (a much older jet then the F-4). Why did they use it? Because the Thunderbirds did! (so the pilots told the camera in an interview I saw). I bet it was awesome to see them in formation and the sound must have been Earth shaking. I've watched the F-18 practice over my head which an interesting treat because they can't fly over the crowds in the real show. When they turn and burn it back to the airfield,  it's stunningly loud.
