This was a joy to build no issues no problems, I did use the Reskit engine nozzle, as the kit supplied one is a bit poor on detail.
I also used the Quinta cockpit detailing set, all pained with Mr colour paints, I did the ejector seat to represent the fur line seats you sometimes see on these aircraft.
    Enjoy

    Hi all,

Here is my  Me-163B Komet....it is the Meng kit, and the only aftermaket items used were Barracudecals wheels and decals from the Kagero book, "Last Hope of the Luftwaffe, Me 163, He 162, Me 262".

    Painted in Tamiya acrylics.

    All,
After waiting for what seemed to be an eternity, the kit was finally released. I’ve wanted to do an Erickson Air Crane for the longest time, in a large scale. At the start of my journey, I decided to roll the dice, and see if I could get any information directly from Erickson HQ in Oregon. Not only did they help me get started, but they answered questions that I had along the way.
One of the main areas that I needed  help with, was the Fire Tank itself. They provided me specific photos I needed to get started on scratch building it. The next hurdle, was the orange color of their aircraft. To my surprise, they sent me the actual paint code for me to match.
These are the following items that were scratch built. The entire Fire Tank, the tool box/cargo container in front of the Fire Tank, the landing gear struts, (The kit comes with single wheels on the rear struts. “Bubba”, the aircraft I modeled, has dual wheels and the rear struts). The steps that go up to the tail rotor gearbox. I used everything from plastic card stock, to brass tubing to get the job done. The decals came from a company in Germany. They are fantastic.
It took quite some time for the scratch building. I learned a lot along the way. Erickson was a huge help in making this project a reality.

    Howdy, partners…

I’ve now completed the main bomb bay structure as well as the wing bomb cells on the Stirling. 250+ pieces of individually cut Evergreen has got the job done - quite tedious but the results are worth it. There will still be some more to add when the bomb load goes in such as racks and some piping, plus the doors of course.

On the real aircraft the divider between the gear bays and the outermost bomb cell is actually open with the truss work exposed, but I’ve gone for strength over accuracy as beefy card is needed for the wheel bays and general wing structure to give it enough strength to support the model.

I need to finish off the main gear bays but I’ve had enough if cutting plastic strip for the time being so will focus on something else!

    All the best,
    Tom

Amen to that. As I have stated before, and will happily state again, more power to their elbow and may the releases continue. I am and have been eagerly awaiting the release of their 'Kate'. which should be a real joy based on what I have seen.

Hopefully, the elitists, naysayers and zealots can hold their water and just allow those of use who enjoy all large scales to revel in the pleasure of this and other similar future releases, whatever & whenever they may be. There is, after all, plenty of room at the trough, for all to take their fill, without decrying and denying others theirs.

    Hello Everyone,
I can now share with you the final photos of my just completed build.  Just like every other build, I tried new things and I really wanted this bird to look worn and weathered, just as if it had spent a few months on the Russian Front flying from dawn to dusk, day after day with little time for excessive care.  As the title suggests, Mr G., a fellow LSP'er made this build possible with his generosity and initiative.

The only aftermarket used on this build were the HGW seat belts and the Eagle Parts tail wheel.  The figure is by PlusModel.  I had wanted to do a heavily weathered fighter for a while, and after reading a few memoirs from Luftwaffe pilots who spent their careers on the Russian Front, I know their planes got used a lot more than their Western Front counterparts.   I tried not to make the weathering too over-the-top, but in the end, I'm satisfied with the result.  I hope you like it too.

I give you, Karl Willius of 1/JG26 and his personally marked FW190.

I think if I were going to replicate the constellation of helmet trackers (dots)- I’d create a template of the dot pattern, temporarily tape it to the outside of the canopy, and from the inside, tap a tiny dot of JB WELD (applied with a fine strip of wire held in a pin vice) at the dot locations.
I do rivets like this all the time.
JB WELD dries to a very dark grey. It domes beautifully; and after you practice for a bit, you’ll make consistent sized dots.
No decal film to deal with either

Using a scan of the wing bottom, I made custom masks for the wheel well openings and cut them from Tamiya mask sheets.  The wheel wells were sprayed with a flat coat because the Alclad is very smooth and hairspray tends to bead on glossy surfaces. The flat coat will hold the hairspray better.

After hairspray was applied, I sprayed the interior color which is a 50:50 mixture of Tamiya and Mr Hobby Aqueous IJA Greens.

About an hour later, I rubbed a stiff-bristled paint brush dipped in water over the green to create the chipping effect.  I'll let this dry and spray it with a clear to seal the work and prepare it for the next weathering step.

While the wheel wells dry out, I can flip the bird over and work on the topside.  The clear part frames have been sprayed with black.  This is to create opacity and prevent light from shining through the canopy frames.

I'm going to do some hairspray chipping up top  but only in a limited area.  This area was sprayed with Tamiya AS-12 Silver decanted into an airbrush.

Have switched to physical modelling this week - trying to get to grips with the lower hull & suspension.

Whilst the starting kit is the Tamiya 1:16 kit, I’ve replaced the entire lower hull with an aftermarket one that has the correct double angle lower Glacis & sponsons. These upsides are offset by zero instructions & the insistence by the aftermarket guys of providing brass fasteners to bolt fixtures into an aluminium base. Welcome to shear city. At M1.6, shorn bolts are not fun.

Here’s some of the suspension fittings.

The suspension mounts, swing arms, hydraulic buffers, & bump stops all require bolting on to the hull side.

    Broader view.

As can be seen, the angles of the swing arms is all over the place. There’s no positive location method for the torsion bars. I’ve pinged the manufacturer for help, hopefully I’ve missed something straightforward.

Inside the hull looks pretty good. Don the fooled by the engines, this is a 100% static build.

Frustrating work. This is why I lean toward 100% scratch projects. I own all the errors & am responsible for the single source of truth.

    Thanks for looking in.

It's not my style to share personal information but my experience could possibly save you or someone you love.

In my case I knew I was having a stroke because my mother had one and I recognized the symptoms and called EMS immediately. My doctors and nurses all told me that my quick reaction saved me from a much more serious outcome.

As it is, I only spent 2 days in the hospital and my symptoms have all but gone, but let me tell you that when I was fist admitted I couldn't talk or even write. It was horrifying not being able to communicate and the thought that this was going to be my new reality left me to wonder if therapy would help and how long it would take. By the grace of God and my prompt action, I'm happy to be a almost fully functional human being again.

There will have to be some changes in my life, and residual weakness in my one arm may affect my ability to build models, but time will tell.

    KNOW THE SYMPTOMS!
    DON'T SCREW AROUND!
    ACT PROMPTLY!

This is the 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109 G-6 done in the Night Fighter scheme of Yellow 17 from Eaglecal Decals.

On this build I used the MDC Cockpit, with an Eduard Look Instrument Panel, Master Models Gun Barrels and Pitot, Montex Masks for the Crosses and Barracudacast Wheels and Exhausts.

This build is dedicated to Jerry Crandall.
