I agree in part.  Tamiya did release advances of the Mustang and Corsair in Cad.  Maybe the Mosquito as well but I forget.  They have started teasing some images a month or two ahead of official release.  They also did it with the 1/48 P-38.

At the same time I looked at the facebook thread and I don't think it was an official Tamiya release.  I cannot speak to accuracy as others have on here but it did not look official to me.  There are multiple sources where a new Tamiya release can be confirmed with some welcoming and this does not look like one, plus there are no other sources that i could find.  No one else is reporting any other sources and when they do come out they come from Japan no Taiwan.

Well most people will love it or hate it. One thing is for sure it will most likely be the definitive 109 kit in 1/32.

IF its true, i'll take a couple please.

Not sure I really understand that technique and don’t know what a “dry point” is.  Is he saying to scribe the existing panel lines deeper, and then sand down the surface to get down to the new narrower panel line?  If the panel lines are wide and you rescribe with a narrow tool, what keeps the line straight as you draw the tool down the existing panel line instead of just wandering around in that wide trough?

As I can't find mention of this being a hard fact, have edited the title Tim. Academy did release a version with a B tail, but I think that's the closest we're going to get.

I think if you take a look preview cads were published in Tamiya Model Magazine April or May issue which came out ahead of the show.  Also I know the Corsair leaked on a list of coming models from Tamiya prior to the show announcement.  I remember by the Time of the Show we knew on the Corsair what the cockpit was like, my big question was whether the landing gear was going to be possible like the Mustang and Spitfire.  You may not have seen it, but the information was out there.  You might be able to find the threads on this very site discussing the new announcements.  The Mustang and Spitfire were both originally released at Shizuoka in May so just find the year and look at the posts from that time.  The thread should be searchable.    Tamiya does short term release key kit news in advance because it wants the publicity.  They do not do that with every kit, some are still a complete surprise. I follow every kit release as I am interested in a lot more subjects than 1/32 planes.

Right. There are those that contend that Tamiya made very little real effort to update the Mustang kit, and therefore have no further interest in 1:32 stuff, yet I maintain that to do any work at all to release another variant, means that sales of the earlier kit(s) were sufficient to warrant further investment, no matter how minor.

Indeed, I have yet to understand why we have so few new large scale postWW2 topics and more particularly jet kits...!?! I understand that creating a model of a Su-34, a Vigilante or a F-111 is a very complex and expensive venture. However, there are still many smaller topics that could be easily produced: A/T-37, T-38 & F-5A/B, Fury variants, F-94 variants, Gen 1 Harrier/SHAR, Hawker Seahawk, Folland Gnat, BAC Strikemaster/Jet Provost, Dassault Ouragan, Fiat G-91Y, etc. etc. And if you want to add the propellers: T-34C, SuperTucano, PC-6, Mohawk, etc. For some reasons, it looks most manufacturers do not really see the attractivity. Currently, only Kittyhawk and Italeri are filling the blanks.

To me this is not really a problem of demand. What was the demand for WW1 kits before WnW revolutioned that market? We really need some actor with a new view to foster the release of high end models of cold war planes. I'm sure that this would generate demand as well. The Harrier is an excellent example of what COULD be done!

I sincerely hope the WNW Lancaster does not become the Eldorado of large scale models. The HK kit looks very nice apart from being sparse in the cockpit area and the pilot’s seat being off but I guess I just want to see what the WNW tooling would have given us. I had my wife already to buy it me for Christmas too....go on Tamiya, splash the cash!

Very sad day indeed. Hopefully all those affected can gain employment in the not too distant future.

I think the chances of Tamiya acquiring the moulds is zero - it's simply not their thing. They build their own models, WWI has never been an interest, and they seem less inclined to move further into 1/32. I could see someone like Eduard looking to acquire the tooling for some of the popular single-seaters - Camel, D.VII, Albatros etc. and also the Dr.I. Alternatively, some aspiring Chinese manufacturer might acquire the whole lot and start re-popping them a cut-rate prices. The likelihood, though, is that the tooling will be out of reach for most and the potential for a decent return on the investment on the other kits (apart from those already mentioned) would seem to be slim at best.

My guess is that - unless Peter Jackson has some sort of masterplan in mind - we'll never see the majority of WNW kits (especially the two-seaters and the multi-engined aircraft) kitted again. The Lancaster and HP 0/400 will never see the light of day.

Probably in the queue — though I heard a rumour that the P-51B/C was being treated as a priority, pushing back the Wurgers.

an exception to your rule of rubbish is the Fokker G.1...now that would be something in 1/32...the forerunner of the P-38 in certain aspects (although that was pure fighter (Pursuit) of course)

Well I'll take the pure business line and suggest that Tamiya will keep to it's current formula of multiple versions for each aircraft.  So, we have currently in the Tamiya 1/32 line-up of repeat offerings:

    F-4 x 5
    F-14 x  2
    F-15 x 2
    F-16 x 2
    Mitshubishi Zero x 4
    Spitfire x 3
    P-51 x 3
    F4U Corsair x 3

With the last three being 'recent' releases having a pattern of 3 models per aircraft.

So from my slightly cynical perspective, which aircraft would be the most attractive (highest selling) and provide opportunity for seperate releases of say, 3 models on the one base kit?  Add to this is Tamiya's wanting to inspect existing aircraft for details (e.g. Vintage Wings in Canada for the Spitfire...see a previous post in this thread).

    Also Smithsonian and other collections:

    https://www.si.edu/spotlight/wwii-aircraft

I'm guessing that the leaning will be towards WW2 Pacific Theatre given their recent trends.  So, candidates include for example:

P-47 Thunderbolt- also Europe Theatre for subsequent releases like their P-51 Korea model Grumman Hellcat - no decent 1/32 kit exists P-38 Lightning - Lots of versions, Pacific, North Africa, Europe P-40 - Again plenty of versions to release -  Warhawk, Kittyhawk, Tomahawk - Flying Tigers etc etc.  However there are already some good kits in the market. I'll also throw in a Sabre...
I would be happy for any of the above, especially the Sabre..of which there is no decent kit in 1/32. But my bets are on in order:

F-86 Sabre - Mainly due to their recent P-51 Korea model which would make an ideal marriage of kits from the Korean War. P-38 P-47 P-40
