Good to see you back on the horse Shaka. So, with the Mk IX a write off, can you use any of the Tamiya parts on the Revell kit? Max and Richard both mention the wheels so I wonder if anyone will notice that they are four spokes instead of five..... The canopy is probably better in the Tamiya kit too. Oh, and the windscreen if it fits,......and the ailerons,.....and the aeriel,.....the pitot,.....entrance door. Maybe you could reproduce a modern warbird which makes use of hybrid parts.....? Whatever you choose to do I am confident that the result will look superb. Enjoy your new project. Cheers.

Yikes! That sucks Jake. I guess it's a pretty heavy book though. All being well I can find one over here. If not, I shall save up and get one direct. Either way I'm having one! Cracking job bro'.

Yikes. That's too bad Shaka. I hope that your model is salvageable when you analyse the wreckage. As you say, a large investment of time. I wonder if this is a plea for more of daddie's time? Hope all works out ok in the end. Cheers.

You have GOT to be kidding us! A working seat?!?? Oh wow.....that just goes above and beyond. I hope that this new project helps you overcome the stagnation on the Tigercat too. It would be a crying shame to see that one remain unfinished. Good luck on your new adventure Peter. Cheers.

Hi Shaka, I've used Max's approach in the past when using the real tyres. Mounted on a suitably sized screwdriver handle I turned them in a power drill chuck and used a piece of fine wet and dry (used dry) paper to get rid of the mold seam and take the sheen off the surface. if you're going to attempt to paint them you'll require a suitable rubber primer. Nice job on the gear legs. Cheers.

Tamiya Spitfire MK IX- Battle of Britain
geedubelyer replied to BloorwestSiR's topic in Edgar Brooks Spitfire Tribute
Nice work Carl. Omitting the engine or rather, closing it in, certainly helps the build progress. I did the same on a P-51D a while ago. Nice job on the cockpit components. Cheers.- 136 replies

Hi Andy, perhaps we can help? Carl, I'm in the UK and won't be needing the etched covers from my Mk XVIe kit (does it also have them?) so would it be easier (re:postage) for me to send Andy a set if he would like them? Let me know guys. Cheers.

Thanks for the heads-up. Definitely want one of these but I'm going to have to find some place to buy them over here. $19 for shipping makes the total price much higher Lovely looking book Jake, just hope I can find one this side of the pond for sensible money. Cheers.

AFV CLUB Anti-Reflection Coating for Canopy Have Glass
geedubelyer replied to iaf-man's topic in LSP Discussion
Hi guys, I had campaigned for years for a product like this so I'm thrilled that someone has taken up the gauntlet. However, it's worth checking reference photos. Whilst aircraft like the F-16 and F-18 are perfect candidates for this type of effect, others, like the A-10, are perhaps less so. I have n't noticed the irridescent effect on real A-10 canopies, nor the F-117 for that matter. Aircraft like the Tomcat rarely show the irridescent sheen either so it is worth checking. I think Tony is correct in that the seam is on the exterior and the sheen is on the interior. Polishing out the seam should n't affect the colour. I talked to a number of paint manufacturers and contacted optical coating manufacturers in an attempt to find a medium that could be airbrushed onto plain glazing. Unfortunately my endeavours came to nought so I'm happy to see this product on the market. Chek mentioned vacuum forming a film and in fact I did that in small scale for a recent non-aircraft project. The main issue with that would be getting the film to adhere to the glazing, particularly in a complex form like an a modern jet canopy. Hopefully AFV club will consider increasing the range of canopies in the future. Cheers. -
Sounds promising Brett. Good to hear that the project is progressing. Looking forward to seeing a pic or two when you get the chance. Cheers.

Glad to hear you're feelng a little better Don. Hope your recovery continues apace. The progress on your Spit is admirable. That is a lovely, smooth primer coat. Nice job. I really like those landing gear sets too. The tyres look like actual rubber and you've created great depth on the wheels too. Superb stuff, keep at it. Cheers.

You're a veritable rivetting machine Andy. You've made light work of a time consuming job, well done. I'm sure your efforts will look splendid under paint. Good luck with blending the windscreen into the fuselage. It certainly looks better than the HB version, as does the resin prop assembly. Your Spitfire is shaping up to be another beauty. Keep at it. Cheers.

I'm, in full agreement with Shaka and Andy Max, that is some splendid work on the Merlin. Most inspirational. I've taken a similar route with the enamel undercoat though I chose Humbrol aluminium metalcote. It is a challenge to give a largely black lump any kind of visual interest but you've managed that with aplomb.Great job, well done. Cheers.

Tamiya Spitfire MK IX- Battle of Britain
geedubelyer replied to BloorwestSiR's topic in Edgar Brooks Spitfire Tribute
Glad you decided to build another Spitfire alongside the Esprit Carl. Neat work so far. I guess you'll need to rescribe the .303 gun hatches and add the openings in the wing leading edge? Or did this airframe retain the cannon hatches for the movie? Interested to follow along on this one. Cheers.- 136 replies

Hey Cees, nice to see another Spitfire on the go. Would you consider joining the Edgar Brooks memorial group build with it? There is still plenty of time left before the finish of the gb and this would make a worthy entrant and another fitting tribute to the man. You've made a great start, keep it up. Cheers. P.s, Any more info on the Manchester conversion? Is it the yet to be released 1/32nd scale version that you converted?

Tamiya F-15C Kicked Up A Notch- Dec 1/17: DONE!
geedubelyer replied to chuck540z3's topic in Works in Progress
That's a neat start Chuck. I appreciate the clarity of the photography which really shows the detail in the resin. You are in for a treat picking out all of the knobs, buttons and cable ties etc. Nice to see Peter's new modern jet stuff in use. Those are definitely on my wish list to treat myself to at some point. Keep at it. Cheers. -
Hi Wolf, That is a supeb treatment of tyre rubber. Such a pleasure to watch a modeller with an eye for reality. How many of us just paint a tyre black or a uniform shade of dark grey? If one looks at a real tyre there are numerous shades of greys and browns which you have captured to perfection. Just like your Spitfire thread was, this is fast becoming the go-to for Mosquito building. Incredible work and a joy to see. Thanks for taking the time to share your talent. Cheers.

Converting a Spitfire Vb into a High Altitude Spitfire
geedubelyer replied to Reuben L. Hernandez's topic in LSP Discussion
Hi Reuben, good luck with your project. I can't help with any details of what is required for the conversion but I do have a pair of the old Hasegawa extended wingtips going spare if they are of any use to you? Cheers.
