  1. Hello, I’ve been busy with so much other stuff that I am a little out of the loop on what is available for 1/32 scale F-4 Phantom kits… last I remember is that the Japanese firm (ZM) has created 1/48 scale F-4’s and that it was rumorred we would see them scaled up to 32nd scale. Will this ever happen?

I am very interested in building a Vietnam era F-4 Phantom in 1/32.

    What options do I have?

Thanks for the help and insights!

    Cheers

  2. I always liked the F-14 from a technical point of view. It was big, and basically a missile sled. My money was always on the F-16 and F-15 for dogfighters.

I spoke once with an RAF Pilot who had a multi year exchange with the US NAVY, and he was privileged enough to fly the F-14 and get carrier qualified. He said NAVY flying was a lot different than being based at an airbase and he liked the bird. He later went on to the US NAVY Test Pilot school and later got to sample the modern fleet of US military aircraft and he said the -16, and -15 left the Tomcat behind. He missed getting F-18 qualified, and he told me that the F-18 was just that much more of a fighter then the venerable F-14. He returned later to the RAF and flew the Tornado. He said that was an underpowered dog… always interesting to hear upfront and personal stories from those who fly these birds of prey…

I always wanted to get strapped into a fast jet - but, I’m content at the other end of the speed spectrum flying seaplanes and firefighting aircraft. Nothing beats punching a load off and saving a community engulfed in a wildfire.

    Cheers

  3. The only thing that I think is missing is a number painted on the engine casing in oxide red primer - many sub-assemblies that were manufactured in war time Germany had such quick identification numbers painted on them. I have seen an actual Jumo 004 jet engine with an original hand painted number, I think it was in Slovakia.

    Beautiful work mate!

Ps. Is this a kit one can actually order from somewhere?

Both Chris ( @Dope737)  and I know Dan very well. Chris is also tight with the backseater- My wife also knows Dan very well.

I text with Dan about every day. They are good. Very grateful that everything went as well as it did.

It takes me two hands to count the number of bros who have ejected from military jets. Half of them didn’t survive. Again-we are all very grateful.

    Namaste

Am glad to hear they are both okay Pete… man, what an ordeal. Any news on what happened, was it an engine failure or hydraulic failure… just really curious what could have happened to have caused this jet to go down.

God I really hate people sometimes.

I have a theory that my gear-up landing in my L-39 was caused by a jealous pilot who messed with my right main wheel. The cameras in the hangar the week prior “didn’t work”. I pretty much know who to suspect. The guy is also an A&P. Crossed swords a couple times, etc.. Cops were useless.

    hang tough buddy.

    cheers

That is unreal… I know here in Austria that many privately owned aircraft have motion activated detectors with cameras installed on all main landing gear… they cameras capture everything… now I know why they do this… so sad… one of the most powerful forces in our world is jealousy and envy… the root of all evil.
