Alright...   Thank you for the kind comments and likes...   I still have no certain idea as to how my theory will play out.  But anyway, here is the pre-shading all done.  Though I just remembered I'll have to put some wood-grain on the axle fairing.

Thank you, Michael.  You didn't have to wait long.

 

Today I applied the real red.  Von Richthofen's Red by MRP.

And I am mightily pleased with the results.  There are faint shadows where I want them for the most part...   but there is no place where they look like obvious paint effects.  To me, the match the mission of most weathering techniques:  You can see them, but they are difficult to define and almost tease the brain because they aren't overtly obvious.

 

...   I hope that once assembled, paired with the figure, and photographed, it all comes together.

ummm...   yeah.  My Granddaughter's cup....    she's too big for it.
