Hi All!

As I said earlier, my build for this GB will be the Hawker Tempest Mk.V from Special Hobby.

As I often do when starting a short-run kit, I cut loose all major parts and did a “Tape-together-build”, just to get a feeling of the fit of the major parts.

The fuselage taped, no problems whatsoever, very good fit overall.

…and the wings, now You´ll get a feel of how big this aircraft really are, P-47 Thunderbolt sieze!

The worst and most notorious place to get a good fit usually are the join between the wing and fuselage on the underside.

But it looks passable here.

The fit against the wings were quite sloppy on the top side, so I cut off the fuselage bulkheds and placed them inside….

…and VOILÀ, the gaps almost disappeared!

It looks quite buildable, this will be a fun build!

Hi All!

As usual, the build started in the cockpit, It´s very detailed, but a bit fiddly to get together.

The fit was very good and it was an very enjoyable experience.

I cleaned up the resin parts, the seat is incredible!

I managed to sand trough the seat pan, but that´s a easy fix.

You get both the larger, early 5-spoke and the later smaller 4-spoke wheels and the tail wheel in resin, as well as in plastic.

Perfectly detailed and very crisp, made by CMK (as all resin in this kit).

The wing guns, two types of gun sight, compass, and several other small details in resin.

The cockpit parts are already used as you can see on the pictures above.

 More to come soon....

Hi All!

A few more pieces have been added to the cockpit.

From what I have read, the front and propeller is somewhat off and needs correction, so I got the Barracuda Cast nose correction set.

This set contains a new nose section and a completely new propeller.

All parts included in the set.

The parts all cleaned up and ready to go.

The reason I bought this set was to get a nice, clean nose without any seams, not to correct the shapes of the thing.

But when I compared the resin parts with the kit parts, I do understand why it´s needed.

More to come soon!

Good oh Stefan, love the Tempest….it’s a Hawker after all. Will you be able to paint the assembled cockpit easily?

Yes Mozart, That, is a question I will reply later on....  :hmmm:

It will be not be easy, that I know, but It´s better to paint the cockpit after assembly,  I know I would make a mess of it if all was pre-painted anyhow.  :D

So far the fit has been very good, this is nothing like any Special Hobby kits from several years ago, this is more like an Airfix or Eduard kit.

SH have evolved something marvellous the last few years, this is more mainstream then short run!

The name of the plane, «Le grand Charles», refers to the General Charles de Gaulle who was big (grand) by the size, by the character, by his resilience and especially had impressed the young «Free French» what was P.Clostermann when he first met him in London.
