TonyT
The cutaway JP was at RAF Halton when I did my training there, so it has given true value for money, I have others not uploaded yet, so will over time add some more. The hangar has running scenes on the walls because it used to be an indoor arena with running track and often hosted televised sporting events. We toured 5 hangars in all, but it was a bit rushed so time was limited to get some shots.

Yep, I remember the indoor athletics from Cosford on tv when it was probably the best indoor track in the country. Love the Jag in "The Saint" scheme....................... That would look really nice in 1/32.
ziggyfoos
Dumb question.... can someone give a brief explanation on what this is in general that we're looking at? I've only been to the RAF museum there, so is this what's normally in the actual Cosford station hangers? Or is this some special thing going on base? There's still hangers each containing Jags, Sea Kings, Tornadoes, etc? Are these always sitting there?
TonyT
The hangars on the main RAF Cosford site are the RAF's Main training base for RAF Aircraft Engineers and these hangars are normally off limits to the public, I went to a photo shoot event, they also have a couple of hangars on the airfield, again off limits where the final airfield training phase takes place, these shots are from all of those hangars. Not a dumb question BTW. .. Edited May 31, 2019 by TonyT

Loved working on the JP's and Gnats. The hydraulics layout from a Hunter. Airfield training with the instructor on the pushbike lol. Cosford was more up to date when i went there on my fitters course. But i preferred Halton Edited May 31, 2019 by AlanG TonyT
TonyT
Alan, Did my Mechs at Saints, last course to cover piston engines, did my Fitters at Halton :) Thing that I got from the visit was a lack of good practices in places. look at the Sea King shots cowlings and fairings lying on the floor next to an empty rack! Pylons being mounted on a tornado using a pallet truck and about 10 pallets stacked on it, and bits of ground equipment lying all around the place, steering arms etc.
