Sparzanza
After I finished masking very thoroughly, I wiped the entire model clean with some strong alcohol... and let it dry. Then I began shooting Humbrol 106 ocean grey. I will do one more coat tomorrow as it settled a bit too thin in a couple of places. sandokan, Victor K2 and LSP_Kevin
Sparzanza
Second and finally a third ultra thin coat. I will let this cure for a while before masking off preparing for the Humbrol 116 green. sandokan and Gazzas
Sparzanza
I started masking off the camo pattern with Tamiya's bendy tape, 3 mm if I recall correctly. It took some time; it's a very low-tac tape... but fairly easy to bend. Then I started filling up the gaps with regular tape. This will take a lot of time, so I will do the rest tomorrow. I also plan on spraying some Humbrol 49 matt varnish before the Humbrol 116 green, to seal off potential gaps and prevent paint to seep through. Thoughts on this technique? sandokan
Sparzanza
Progress! I have finished masking in preparation for Humbrol 116 green: I then sprayed some more Humbrol 106 grey around all the edges of the tape, to hopefully negate any Humbrol 116 peeping through. sandokan and MikeMaben
Sparzanza
I couldn't wait. I expect there to be a lot of mistakes when unmasking, but I've done my best at least. R Palimaka, sandokan and LSP_Kevin
Sparzanza
Again, I couldn't help myself. Super curious of how it would look underneath that tape, I started removing it. There were some minor mistakes, but overall? 8/10 I'd say, nothing I can't fix! sandokan, Victor K2, LSP_Kevin and 2 others
Sparzanza
I expect shooting the Humbrol 24 yellow will give me some problems, due to its poor coverage. Any advice? Prime with pink was it?

Sparzanza
Looks good. Maybe white under the yellow Thanks! Yes, perhaps. Looking good!! You're almost there. So great when the paint starts to go on! What a big beast... Richard Thank you! I am a bit afraid of messing it up when shooting yellow... though also when shooting the glosscoat. Many scary moments ahead in the coming weeks.
Sparzanza
I will let the paint dry one more day, then I will start masking the leading edge of the wings as well as the top of the nose in preparation for Humbrol 24 yellow. In the meantime, let's just say there's no shortage of things to do ... sandokan
DonH
Nice job on the camo. It looks very crisp and brings the whole plane to life. Sparzanza
Sparzanza
Nice job on the camo. It looks very crisp and brings the whole plane to life. Thanks Don! The masking of nose and wings has begun! I also decided to mask off to spray the tailband, which proves extremely tricky due to awkward angles.
