Iain
The plan as it is: + +(for reference)+ + = RAF Mitchell II (which will be in full D-Day stripes). Need to finish a few other things first - but pulling refs/materials together at the moment... Yes - lots of changes - not least rear fuselage depth, new windows and upper and lower turrets - but allways liked the Mitchell - especially in RAF colours. Recon it's all doable! Iain
If anyone has thoughts on good references for RAF Mitchells I'd appreciate any leads - they don't appear to be the most photographed of aeroplanes! I'm about Googled out at the mo! Iain
Cees Broere
Iain, Great project. There is a former 320 Sqn RAF flown by Dutch crew on display at Overloon. It flew dozens of sorties and survived. Perhaps this will be a good start. Pics must be on the web. Cees
Iain
Thanks Cees - will look that up! 320 Sqn is currently favourite for model scheme - would like to honour the Dutch crews... Iain Cees Broere

mozart
Damn Iain, if I'd have known this a week or so ago I could have done a complete "walk around" photo session of the B25 at Hamilton CWHM which is currently finished in D Day stripes. Marc, who was my Harvard pilot, is the main B25 pilot. Max Edited September 6, 2014 by mozart
BloorwestSiR
Damn Iain, if I'd have known this a week or so ago I could have done a complete "walk around" photo session of the B25 at Hamilton CWHM which is currently finished in D Day stripes. Marc, who was my Harvard pilot, is the main B25 pilot. Max Kits-World makes a decal set for Hot Gen. Here`s the only pic I have of her from my visit in June. They also do roundals and fin flashes for RAF Mitchell's. I will be building my B-25 as Hot Gen when I get around to it in the stash. One thing to note is that I don't think the RAF ever flew gun nosed Js. I think they had only glass nosed ones but can't be certain. Edit-I just find this old thread which might make it an easier build for you since the II has partial invasion stripes: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=30337 Carl Edited September 7, 2014 by BloorwestSiR
Cees Broere
Carl, The version Iain is planning used the aft-fitted dorsal turret and pointed tail. Not many of those still around. Cees
Big Tony
`Blinkin eck',...I wish that I could afford one of these kits,.....never mind two! The RAF did fly B-25J`s too as the Mitchell Mk.III if you want to save cutting up two kits and 320 Sqn flew these too. I have a few RAF Mitchell pics,.....what sort of things are you after Iain? If you PM me here or on BM with your e mail address I`ll send what I have over to you. Cheers Tony
BloorwestSiR
Carl, The version Iain is planning used the aft-fitted dorsal turret and pointed tail. Not many of those still around. Cees Hi Cees, I got the impression that Iain is hoping to do a Mitchell in D-Day invasion stripes and all he could find were the earlier Mitchell IIs which requires the conversion work you mentioned. I just wanted to point out that there were some later Mitchell IIIs if he wanted to make things easier on himself Plus this way he has more time for his Lightning correction set... Iain
Hiya everyone - Cees is indeed correct with regards to early 'glass' nose - as is Carl in that I want to do a D-Day bird. I've been looking at this on and off since the kit came out and fancy having a go at the Mitchell Mk II (B-25C/D) with glass nose - partly because I don't seem to be able to leave anything alone - and partly because I haven't yet found a photo of a Mitchell III (B-25J) in full period D-Day stripes (restored airframes don't count! The Academy 'G' is the Accurate Miniatures kit re-issued (with all parts for glass nose included) that will help as a 3D reference with the modification work needed on rear fuselage - it's en-route via Royal Snail as I type Thanks for heads up re. Kits at War decals for these birds - was having a close look at Telford last year - and, yes, on the list to order! Carl - thanks for the photo! Any idea how accurate the current 'Hot Gen' markings are? I'm aware she now has a bathing suit - but does she replicate an actual airframe/serial number do you know?
