Glenn R
Hi All, Just finished this recently:- The aircraft was flown by the Savage Skywriting Company and, as far as I know, was the only SE.5a to be operated on skis. It's the Wingnut's 1/32 scale kit and I made the following modifications:- Alter the engine to a Wolsley direct drive unit. Change the pitch of the propeller to turn the opposite way. Modify the radiator front. Extend the exhaust pipes. Make a cut-out in the rudder. Manufacture a set of skis. All I need now is a snowy base to put it on! Regards, Glenn. Glenn R
Glenn, Outstanding build all around! I have one question for you; Can you please give me your recipe for silver dope? I have never seen any one do it so well! Rocky Hi Rocky, I used Humbrol No.56 metallic matt aluminium on both the SE.5a and Bristol fighter. Please remember that this was a base coat. After masking off all the ribs, I gave all the fabric areas a 'filter' coat (20% paint, 80% thinner) of dark blue, in this case Mr. Hobby No.326. I have used Tamiya X-11, which works just as well as a base coat.. Regards, Glenn.

Youngtiger1
Wow Glen, that is one awesome looking plane. I have a Roden 1/32 SE.5a that I'm trying to sell but after looking at your build I thinking I'm going to have to change my mind and keep it. Very nice work my friend. Spads57
Glenn, Excellent project my friend. It's great to see an old War Bird like the SE-5A dressed in civilian clothes. Regards, Gregory Jouette
