Furie Posted November 2, 2024 Author Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) Thank you Max, Kev, Matt, Ernest, Philippe and John for your messages. I'm glad you like my roundels. I thought it would be really hard to do well, but if I'm careful and patient, it turns out pretty well. And as John says, it's always an emotional moment when you take off all the masks and “admire” the result (as long as it lasts...). I painted some of the panel lines on the fuselage with Dark Alu so that I could chipping later: I painted the step zones black. I hesitated whether to paint them now or after painting the camouflage. But I'm afraid that in the latter case there'd be a big risk of paint peeling off around this area, and of course a lot of repair work. So I painted these 2 areas black and masked them off, and I also drew the separation lines between the OG and DG on the wings and fuselage with a light gray pencil : I painted black the area where the sky-colored stripe is located, because on the post-January 1945 photos, this stripe was repainted with OG and DG. By transparency, this band becomes darker than the OG and DG: Edited November 2, 2024 by Furie Gazzas, MikeMaben, LSP_Kevin and 9 others 12
Greif8 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) Continued superb work Denis! The surface of your build is going to be outstanding when finished. Ernest Edited November 3, 2024 by Greif8
Furie Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 Thank you Martin, Ernest and Gazzas for your messages. After drawing the limits of the OG/DG camouflage on the model with a grey pencil, I cut out the masks that will protect the OG to paint the DG. I diluted the MRP OG to 30%, needle size 0.2mm, airbrush set to low pressure, but not too low pressure either as there's a risk of paint spitting (20 PSI/1.5 Bars). This is the simplest step. I'll then fix the masks and paint the DG... Fanes, LSP_Kevin, patricksparks and 5 others 8
Biggles87 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Good luck with the painting. I hope all that lovely pre-shading was worth it, I don’t bother any more as I seem unable to get the right balance between too much and too little. John Furie 1
Furie Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) Thanks John for your message, I hope you like what I've done ! I put the masks on 1.2mm adhesive tape then painted with DG diluted to 30%. I still have the front of the Tempest to paint, then I'll paint the 4 missing roundels. As expected, all this work takes a long time to put in place, because even if the masks were cut in advance, they require a lot of preparation and attention to detail to position them correctly. The final result is quite convincing and in line with what I wanted to achieve, even if here and there not everything is perfect. mozart Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Are you putting any more thin coats on Denis, or is that it?
