  1. really? the shape required is a compound curve, which flat PE cannot match i'd be interested to see your pics and technique, and how it looked at the end the DML inserts are great, as long as they haven't shrivelled into brittle oblivion (I have had old boxes where some have been ok, and some have crumbled into bits just by looking at them!) Nick
  2. following with interest new manufacturers who produce injection moulded 1/32 kits seem few and far between (understandably) i have no idea of the financial weight behind DBMK, but just in terms of what is churned out, they should look very carefully at Kotare vs Infinity and see why one is riding the crest of a wave, whilst the other got it badly wrong and has been forced to withdraw with its tail between its legs
  3. Very helpful thank you saved for future reference Nick
  4. No, absolutely not a simple build. Think Tamiya wonderful engineering and great fit, a lot in there but ultimately not difficult to build…and then think of *something exactly the opposite* to all those things!
  5. Decals are not the problem, accurate windows are. Remember also that these 3DP windows, in addition to being just not the right shape, don’t even come glazed.
  6. I think this the universe telling you to stop using Vallejo paint. i think you should listen!
  7. Welcome. Impressive detailing work. what did you use for the ‘clips’ that hold the brake lines on the landing gear? cheers Nick
  8. Pleased it’s been announced, and will definitely be getting quite a few surprised at the choice, but it will sell in bucket loads also surprised in that once they decided on a 109, this was the one they went for; indeed of all the WWII variants it’s the one I would have thought the *least* likely. those citing the Zoukei-mura 109 as the reason they didn’t choose the G-6 ‘family’ are very wrong in my (worthless!) opinion - there is near zero overlap / cannibalisation risk, because unless you absolutely must have an engine and all else be damned, I’ve seen enough from Kotare to realise that whatever the subject, it will be far superior to anything Z-m would churn out. i am trying to put Kotare in touch with Lynn Ritger since they reached out for ‘experten’ (sic) - he is about to release a book on the technical development of the 109 covering *all* variants, and I’m not aware of anyone who knows more about the plane.
  9. Hmmm…that price (~£215) is more than a Tamiya Mosquito, a kit bigger, more complex and infinitely superior to anything HpH are going to put out in terms of detail, accuracy and perhaps more importantly, engineering and fit. The whole Infinity thing has been a complete mess from the start, but it’s always easy to criticise a) from the outside and b) with the benefit of hindsight, so ultimately I just feel sad for them and sad for me (lol) because I won’t get to build a kit of a subject that I’ve always liked in my scale (1/35 can go do something obscene to itself). I have said for years that HKM’s next big monster should be the He177. If it ever sees the light of day from HpH it will probably be as expensive as the Border Lanc, if not more so. i guess I just need to focus on building whatever Kotare churn out and ignore all these pipe dreams?!
  10. Ok if looking at whether things are accurate is pedantry then LSP has changed somewhat
  11. just going by what Ed de Kiep (apologies if I am misspelling his name), Ronnie Olsthorn and a few others have said on a Facebook SIG…
  12. I understand the Border Zero is somewhat lacking on the accuracy front (this comes from Zero experts, not me btw) so I wonder how “worth it” any effort will be?
  13. @Eli Raphael I would ask on Britmodeller - you’ll definitely get the answer over there
  14. I have very low hopes for the accuracy of either of those two
  15. Pleased for those who are pleased, but ultimately I think if Border succeeds in 1/35 aircraft will be damaging to 1/32 so I hope the venture fails. I would rather model 1/48 than 1/35.
  16. Wow this looks like haaaaard work. keep plugging away, but the bottom of that rad intake looks quite ‘conspicuous’ and needs quite a bit of work I would have thought. I mention this only because you are clearly competent btw. My Tamiya kit / refs are upstairs so I’m not sure what panel line (if any) is around there, but hopefully you can get it resolved. thanks for sharing the bad as well as the good. Nick
  17. Thanks for sharing the build here - I very much appreciate the detail you are providing which will be super helpful to others who go on to build this kit. i have this and the Z-m 109, and tbh am in two minds about these kits. There is a great YouTube blog on the 109 by The Model Shed who is meticulous in his construction, so I know with that kit at least it does go together and it can be done. But…all of this having to enlarge a hole here, shave off some some detail there etc, does not make me want to dive in I must admit. I think ultimately Z-m’s game doesn’t match their ambition, but it is what it is. There aren’t any other ‘Uber kits’ of 109s or 190s, so it’s these or Hasegawa kits which are over a generation old, or Revell kits which promised much but are still mediocre compared to Tamiya and Kotare. Looking forward to seeing the camo go on. I had always thought it was whitewash added over camo, and then maybe cleaned off as spring came and there were breaks in the snow. In Jerry Crandall’s last book when describing some of these 190s I seem to recall he states greens etc were added *on top of* the whitewash. Is there consensus as to what order these colours went on / anyone any evidence / thoughts etc? best of luck with the rest of the project and thank you once again. Nick
  18. You want to join this FB group where there are quite a few Japanese and specifically Ki-61 experts i have a Hien build just starting and they were super helpful https://www.facebook.com/groups/Ki61Tony/permalink/6728004643970284/
  19. I don’t begrudge Kotare but yeah zero interest in that one from me. The Va is really wringing every last drop from those MkI moulds! They already have their following so I’m sure it will sell ok-ish, but once they release a Vb or better still a Vc they’ll be printing money.
