I am building one at the mo of a 1981 period airframe. The -7M was tested in 1982 so have gone for  -9Ls and -7E2s

The Two Bobs sheet is very nice

Spirit in the Sky is excellent but you may need something else for details. The Verlinden Lock on features the RAF F-4 including the J and I found that very useful

the problem is the issue with the nose starts basically mid-cockpit rather then being just the radome.

The F-105 is so iconic it is a shame that there is no decent kit of it

I am with you on this Chuck - same goes for Italian and armour as well. Don’t get me started on the 1/35 kits of German boxcars!

I can build Cold War Warsaw Pact stuff and like modern Japanese and German subjects too as well as Chinese (just thinking through the stash)

On the subject of boring markings for Allied subjects - you just need to look harder!

It is amazing that after all this time that is the case in 1/32. You would have thought someone would have done it justicefor the 80th anniversary.

That is a great build with significant surgery.

Does anyone have photos of the details on the rear fuselage of the original Revell kit. I really want to get an idea of what the Fuselage looks like and what is worth using.

it is ridiculous that there is no good mainstream kit in 1/32 of either a Hurricane or Spitfire Mk1 given they won the first really/most significant air campaign ever

Thanks for this additional useful info. This pushes me to use the Tamiya fuselage and the Hase nose

Rivets are straightforward to add using Archer rivets that I have already. The lapping less so to replace but the same applies to repairing damage.

The mild gull wing effect is there on the Hasegawa origin kits I think. They lack the undercut.

    Have made my decision:
Use the Hase Mk 1 as the base

    get a Revell Mk 1
original issue and use the fuselage

back up 1 use the Tamiya Mk 9 fuselage and empennage

Back up 2 modify kit parts: I may try this first in any case using the Tamiya as a guide

I am aiming to build a Spit Mk 1 for the Britmodeller Battle of Britain group build this Summer.

I was planning in building the Hasegawa 1/32 kit reboxed by Revell about 30 years ago. I was looking at the sprues yesterday and comparing it to the Tamiya Mk9 fuselage. The good news is that the profile of the rear fuselage matches very well The bad news is that sides of the fuselage are vertical rather than curve in at the bottom.

I see a few options ro fix:

    1. Fix the kit parts - separate the wing fillet from the fuselage - cut heat and bend until the shape is about right
    2. Use the Tamiya rear fuselage and fettle the wings and engine to fit
    3. Use the Revell MkII (that I do not really like the look of built up) for the same or do some hideous kit bash.

i have seen some of the amazing work on here amd
    am up for the challenge.

What do you think would give the best result overall?

I am with you in that. Just making the Hasegawa one was my original plan but I made the mistake of comparing it to the Tamiya one! The rivets were coming from Archer.

Thank you for all the responses. I am rapidly moving in the direction of using the old Revell fuselage and the rest from the Hasegawa kit.

Failing that I will buy a spare Tamiya Mk9 fuselage.

I have all the other bits. I also have the very good Wingleader Mk 1 book that is a revelation

Love the Tempest. The SH kit is a beauty - I have four in the stash.

One thing that I have seen on a few builds is incorrect dihedral. The upper surfaces of the Inner wings are essentIally horizontal (there is a slight and really indistinguishable taper in thickness). The dihedral is on the outer wing panels. There is absolutely no anhedral.

I think the problem is the fuselage being slightly too wide and pushing out the upper halves of the wings.

    Looking forward to this one

Wow...quite an abitious undertaking.  Anthony's build thread mentioned the blunt leading edge of the kit, and that seems to be quite apparent in these photos - will you be modifying this?

Reminiscing to an earlier period of my life when the box tops meant a lot for my hard earned coin.   I’d likely buy the kit just on the box top art work alone.   Saying this,  have you seen the new 1/48 scale ICM offering on Spruebrothers?  The OD. Drab Invader  totally looks the part.   I just don’t have the space for the twins but man that art work is awesome.

My view exactly as I wade through the build. Filling, rescribing and riveting the wings does not take that long - 2 hours max. You will damage a lot of surface detail fitting the Trumpy wings

Did they change the gunsight - I know on RAF P-47s the US type was kept.

are there any good photo references on the radio changes?
