Does anyone have any info on this kit as far as quality, price, or release date?  Hopefully it will be better than the Hobbycraft one, more on par with the rare fisher kit.

I hear you OBG, I'm in the same age bracket and furiously trying to make inroads into the stash and finish as many models as possible before the guy with the scythe puts his hand on my shoulder. One of my unfinished SOD models is the Fisher Sea Fury so I will probably pass on this one.

Same here!:o

I know that as I'm being carried out into the churchyard a good friend will whisper through the box hey you'd never guess this one they've just released a 1/32 scale Blackburn Buccaneer and Sepecat Jaguar! C'est la vie!!  :P If I'm lucky I might actually see the Sea Fury though?:)

Looking forward to seeing this.

Getting rid of five kits for every new one I buy, but I'm running out of easy ones to part with.

I'm with you there Tony, I had quite a large Wingnut collection but have slowly sold the lot over the last 6 months as life is far to short to rig the things and decided to stick with WWII subjects to build. I've also been going through my stash of AM which was equally shocking.

To keep ya going! I'm only a few years behind you [well, I'm 68], and i keep building and have quite a reserve built up to keep the juices flowing. If yer buildin', yer livin'. Keep on jamming brother! I got ideas of being 105 and riding 200 hp sportbikes ,dragging a knee in the turns, though I might need some help getting on and off the thing ,once I'm on ,I'm good!

This is probably a dumb question, but not being a RAF expert by any means here goes.

Special Hobby makes a nice 1/32 Tempest II kit.  To my untrained eyes it looks like a Sea Fury.  I assume there are a lot of differences between the two??

Not a dumb question, everybody has their area of interest. There are only a couple of people I can think of out there on the internet who think they know everything. :)

First of all, the Sea Fury is a naval aircraft of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm so not RAF. And the Tempest and Sea Fury do look similar but they are different, sort of like the difference between a Wildcat and a Hellcat maybe?

The most obvious difference between a Sea Fury and a Tempest is that the former has a raised cockpit compared to the latter. The top of the Tempest's fuselage is relatively flat from nose to tail, whereas the Sea Fury has a noticeable hump up to and back from the cockpit.

Yes, as Kev says, the most obvious was the raised cockpit and humped fuselage in the Sea Fury.

The aircraft was intended to be a lighter weight version of the Tempest II.

Wingspan was shortened, and wheel wells and undercarriage moved in.

Also Sea Fury had five-bladed prop as opposed to four blades on the Tempest.

The tail was taller and a different shape.

Wing leading edge intakes rearranged.

I'm sure others will chime in with more...

Thanks for the explanation guys.  I figured there might be slight differences as I knew on was Navy and one was RAF.  I was hoping that the differences would be minor like the F-4D Phantom and the F-4J.  Oh well, they are both cool aircraft. I do think I like the Sea Fury a little better.

Pretty much sums it up. The wings were shortened by effectively removing the centre sections of the Tempest wing so the wheel wells on the Sea Fury "meet in the middle".

The only other things I can think of are the obvious Naval mods like a hook. There was a non-Naval version as well, but the RAF weren't interested as they had shiny new jets. However, some were sold to Iraq;  I don't recall any other customers, but may be wrong.

I suppose a T-bird version in due course would be too much to hope for? :please::whistle:
