I feel like a drooling ape compared to this work. It honestly looks like you built it full scale and shrunk it.

evening ladies - thanks for stopping by

so after spending some time hanging around the 'pit and getting part way there, I thought it a good idea to get back to the fuselage and get it in some sort of shape where it is actually worth dropping a cockpit into...

..spent some time filling dinks & seams and got it into basic primer - the finish is quite rough as I have to spray it outside - no matter though, it will clean up...

..now up close and personal the F7F is smooth riveted at the front and dome rivets at the back, also the airframe I am modelling has some great contrasting natural metal toning where this is going to be really important to the finish - here is N7654C...

..and here you can see the overlapping panels, quilting, rivets and surface texture typical of the rear fuselage which is where I thought I would start...

..I had always been a bit worried about how I would scribe & rivet at this stage - the subsurface is not really like injection plastic so may not take the pressure, or lead to chipping when I hit filler etc. I also thought about maybe going for resin rivets, but on an NMF bird the tests I have done with Alclad mean it is really hard to get rid of the carrier film (you can see it through foiling too..)..

..at this size & scale it would be hard to get right...

..anyways I thought I would throw some panels on and see what it looked like... started with the plans and marked some out...

..they can be seen more clearly here...

...not happy - it looks too clean, too uniform and not really what I am after...

..then I had my Alan Clark moment and remembered his method of skinning in lithoplate or pewter - beautiful, real, textured and quite mind blowing to look at...

..that was it - I have some 6 thou plate on order, I have some experience of working brass sheet, I have tools and motivation - why not do it - afterall the saying goes there is more than one way to skin a Cat right?

..the next post will hopefully be a start on the process, or a graceful exit and back to looking at getting the effects in other ways...

Hell Yeah... I am fizzing with the prospect of trying it and those DC3 images you posted Craig just flicked on the Nitro

    until next time...

My thought is that WNW made WWI aircraft that were more build able by the masses and the  100th anniversary of the conflict has brought a lot more information on the conflict to the forefront.

ALL WnW for me. I was actually in your same boat Collin..........absolutely NO interest in WWI what-so-ever. To say the LEAST. After Sir Peters company came along it was ALL ABOUT their kits and not necessarily WWI stuff.

If it wasnt for Sir Peters company I would have 0 WWI kits in the stash and 0 built. Periord.

It's the pre-WW2 aviation history for me - my first non-kit modeling project (in the late 50s as a teenager) was to scratch-build a model of every aircraft in the old Harleyford series of books on WWI.  I did them in 1/72 from balsa and such and probably worked my way through about 50 or so before college interfered.  I view the WNW kits as a fulfillment of a dream - models designed and produced by a company that loves the subject era as much as I do.  As a result, I have a stash of WNW (and Silver Wings and Special Hobby and Planet Models and old Alley Cat) kits that far exceed my remaining time on this planet but, like many of us, I buy what I hope to build, not what I will realistically be able to build.

Yet another Tiger I for my collection!

This is AFV Club's late Tiger with Dragon's "Tiger Aces" figures.

I added a set of Attak resin Zimmeritt to the Tiger, and changed the crews heads with a set from Horney (except for the commander).
Humbrol enamels and Tamiya acrylics were used for the tank and figures.

Here is the take on a What-if

All those 32nd scale kits from Revell  from the 70's and 80's that almost everyone has in their stash, but are not
going to build, because they are not "Accurate".

A $5.00 P-47 built anyway you want.....Racer,  Your Private airplane, Australian markings,  the point is there is NO POINT.

You get to be creative and build that kit that you WON'T build otherwise.

It's a break in otherwise relentless pursuit of being accurate, and my nerves could use a break.

Think Outside the BOX,  you can't honestly tell me that you do not have a inexpensive kit that could be "Sacrificed" to the WHAT-IF GOD's

The OOOOLLLDDD Revell F-4 in BLUE IMPULSE colors

Forget the LUFT 46 crap    F-104 in Peruvian camo   F-4U Blue Angel,  P-40 Korean war,  P-51B South Africa,  Mossie Saudi camo

Anyone of those as a Racer    NASJET   NASPROP  Budwieser,  Viagra, M&M's

Sorry but this is only limited by ones IMAGINATION and that LONELY FORLORN kit in the dark recess of your stash, who's only way to get any love

        is a WHAT-IF.

I will shut up now and go back to my pit full of WHAT-IF's    Any 1/35 or larger Flying machine and a paint job? How Hard Is That?

...of which we can count three. These were included with the Trumpeter 1/24 Spitfire Mk VB that I got for christmas. Normally I avoid resin like the plague, but these didn't come attached to large stupid blocks, thus deciding to paint them. I primed them with Vallejo Black surface primer, but everything else is Humbrol enamels and a MIG dark wash. It was a lot of fun painting these. I didn't know the exact colour of their uniforms and whatnot, but I had to settle for what little I could dig out from Google.

Got a set of paint racks these days    and put them on the wall today:

Maybe there is some space to add one more or even two?

Also added a line of hooks to have the most needed Evergreen strips ready at hand.
Racks are made by Hobbyzone of Poland. Each ist just 30x30 cm, plus a small wooden strip on top to mount them onto the wall.

I plan to sell mine, but after I build it.  I plan to sell it for more than what I paid though.  I don't keep anything I build anymore for the most part.  Buying at the lowest price point increases my modest margin on resale.  I get to enjoy the build and the wife minds my hobby a lot less if it contributes modestly to the household budget.
