Went to Hendon , before , during and after the refurb , it was definately better afterwards in my opinion, & as said all the aircaraft are still there. The de Havilland musuem at Enfield is also good . 3 Mossies, a Rapide, some nice early jets all for the price of one ticket ! Plus you can get up close and personal with the aircraft . I've not been there for a few years since they refurbed it again, looking forward to going after the great plague . Linky to Website

1/32nd Korean War Spad, circa 1954 from Trumpeter

They look really good together , it's great that you've built the same aircraft twice and yet ended up with two very distinctly different models. Look forward to seeing the mythical Chinook sometime in April ...... -
1/32nd Korean War Spad, circa 1954 from Trumpeter
Panzerwomble replied to simmerit's topic in Ready for Inspection
That's another nice Spad , liking the bomb texture as well as the depth of weathering . As ever the photos on the piano are good too. Look forward to seeing the Chinook, and congratulations on the winning of your succesful election campaign, I'm sure the gentleman concerned was well chuffed with the result . -
Priller Double Thriller , Part 1 Complete - Revell 190
Panzerwomble replied to Panzerwomble's topic in Air Superiority
.......& back after a little while a brief update Some progress, as predicted the engine I spent some time building , caused no end of problems when it came to attaching the cowlings and frankly will never be seen again . Slight misalignment of the mounting was the main culprit . With hindsight , I could have just built the front cylinders , would have been an easier fit and since I was 99% certain it would be covers closed........, meh . So engine in , covers on , some filling around and about but a reasonable fit. Decals from Peddinghaus arrived as well . Made a start on the basic paint , used Lifecolour.....mixed emotions on that , perhaps not as bad as some would have it , but not as good for me, as my "go to" Tamiya. I quite fancy giving MRP a go sometime but getting hold of them in the UK seems problematic. Mottling on the sides is way too pronounced as of now so going to have a rethink on that / re paint , and then I'll be using my more common techiques for blending weathering and chipping . Sorry for the low res pics , my Iphone doesn't want to perform today . -
The Haynes Company to stop publishing books?
Panzerwomble replied to Confusionreigns178's topic in General Discussion
Fewer and fewer people engage in home mechanics these days, and Haynes manuals over the past 30 years have got less and less useful, as so much in the modern ones now just say - "consult dealer for diagnosis." The proliferation of "the Haynes manual about a grain of sand " & "the Haynes manual about a peice coal" sorta ( and yes the one below is genuine from their wesbsite not a knock off ) pointed to the fact they were scrabling round for sales. A pity, but a sign of the times I guess . -
I'll have one of those please , not sure if that is a mark 3 or 4 ?

Best 109E? Eduard, Cyber Hobby/Dragon, or Trumpeter?
Panzerwomble replied to seiran01's topic in LSP Discussion
Made me laugh out loud , don't hold back Annoying seeing this thread otday .....as a Trumpeter 109E was delivered from China to me this morning , although looking around in the UK a lot of people must have read the review as the Cyber Hobby one seems sold out in most of my normal places. Only upside is , it comes with some Priller decals , which echos my 190 build . -
Maybe a bad year but some real good modelling ! Love them both . P11- 80+mph slower , well under half the rate of climb of the 109 , open cockpit ..the courage it must have taken to fly them against the Luftwaffe in 1939 , knowing you were most likley at such a disadvantage . You've done it justice in that model !

Bless him- he looks well chuffed with that , a surprise extra present post Christmas, whats not to be cheerful with that ! You're a good man Dale ! Re the A4 Leopard , I honestly can't comment as I've not done that one , I suspect the hull shape issse will probably be the same if it's the same lower hull as the "1" . The real experts on modelling the Leopard are to be found here Leopard Club SIG lots of piccies too . -
Yes Gary it is shaping up very nicely , whereas my 190 for this build is distinctly hiding in the hanger this week .

As pic - heavy military ambulance based on the K2 truck , as made famous in Ice Cold in Alex and other films . Sort of thing to make a lot of Brits a bit teary ! ( well me for one anyway )

Just FYI Revells Leopard 1 is a decent kit without a lot of expense , and the Ausf G and D Tamiya's newer ( 1990's tooling) Panthers are both good . No idea why they still bother with the older A . -
Sadly not according to this report from Sept 2020, they were £2.5bn short on corporation tax . ....https://www.chargedretail.co.uk/2020/09/16/amazon-paid-just-6-3m-in-uk-corporation-tax-last-year-despite-13-55bn-in-sales/#:~:text=The online retail giant has, compared to a year earlier. or the TUC reprot of bad working practice dated October 2020 https://www.tuc.org.uk/research-analysis/reports/challenging-amazon-report This isn't a "I hate Amazon" crusade, even on a thread titled Amazon Rants , however I stand by my comments about their business practices being not great. "just the facts ma'am , nothing but the facts please "

Given the ongoing criticism of the way Amazon completely mistreats it's employees - just type "Amazon working conditions" into Google , I tend to avoid using them like the plague, thats before we go near their massive tax evasion policies .

Some of their older stuff I personally feel is still worth building despite being way behind the times:- this one , the early PzIV D , M41, Sdkfz 222 ,even their early Hanomag, to name a few . Others are worth avoiding IMHO- Leopard 1, and the truly terrible Panther A both of which don't even bear more that superficials resemblance to the real thing . . -

That's scubbed up nice for such an old kit -
Financially they are still trying to trade their way back to a profit as far as I know ( Telegraph recently reported lockdown was helping ) . I suspect this will put a brake on any development cash that doesn't grow the business short term . The old 1/24 Spit kit was released in 1970 ....30 years after the real spiifire was flying . The same kit is now 50 years old ...and still being retailed for £50 ,those assets aren't sweaty they are positively drenched an accountant's dream . I also suspect it's quite shrewd from a marketing perspective as well, putting stuff out in the old Roy Cross 1970's livery , direct nostalgic appeal to people in their middle ages who remember them from yesteryear, not because it's a great kit . Airfix don't even pretend to try to jazz them up with PE or other goodies because they know it won'tprobably wont appeal to the target market. Whilst they still sell and it's this or the Trumpy one , no financial impetus to re tool . What is good for me however is that they managed to get out the Hellcat in 2019 , hopefully a sign that they feel it's worth worth putting out new 1/24 , or possibly it was too far advanced a project to cancel .

I did the Revell / Hasegawa Phantom FGR2 last year which was a straightforward and resonably detailed kit if you like RAF jets of course. It's also quite affordable for the quality . BTW - You are missing out on the Maypole Dancing ...have you not seen the Wicker Man ?

Really nice looking model so far !
-
Those both upped the bar quite a bit !!! The patience and skills to execute an F4 like that ....just awesome !
