  1. Holy cow - the finish work is amazing - beautifully done! Scott Gentry
  2. Hobby Stop in Orem, Utah has one left for $250.00 plus shipping. You have to pay tax if you live in Utah. Phone: 1(801)226-7947 - ask for Roger. Scott Gentry
  3. My gut tells me it will be either a 1/32 Spitfire Mk 1 or Mk 5, or an F4U-1D. My hope is that it is either an F6F Hellcat or a Macchi 202 Folgore or a Hawker Typhoon. A P-51B/C, P-40B, or FW190A-8 would be super cool as well. Scott Gentry
  4. Thanks very much guys. Scott G
  5. I have just obtained an Academy F-16i Sufa, and I know just about nothing about jets, and even less about Israeli ones. I have seen photos online of models and of actual Sufas that have a great big scorpion emblem on the tail. Does anyone know if I can get a decal sheet with these markings, and if so who and where? I have googled it to no avail - Isradecal site shows nothing with scorpions on it for the Sufa. TIA for any help. Scott G
  6. I think everyone has covered all of the relevant points, and you mention "Quality." If I could be more specific, the Tamiya kit is better engineered, (fits together better) has significantly more detail, more working control surfaces, (Hasegawa Zero has droppable flaps I believe), canopy masks, multimedia parts, complete cockpit and engine where the Hasegawa kit leaves a lot to be desired, thinner and clearer transparancies, and is more accurate to the real aircraft. Plus the Tamiya has recessed panel lines and more accurate surface details than the Hasegawa kit, which has raised lines and less realistic relief. If the Tamiya Zero is a 10, the Hasegawa would be a 5. Hope this helps... Scott
  7. Graham, Kevin, Don't mean to diss anyones' take on color, but I just don't think that there is any way that you can judge the proper shade of a color on a scale model from a photograph, especially one that is black and white. The photo is obviously light altered - look at how bright the underside of the plane is, and how dark the sky is. Plus 1:1 scale objects always look different than tiny little replicas... Plus the photos of the model are taken in a pretty dark environment. I think the NG on the model looks pretty good. Scott G
  8. Does anyone here know where I can get a resin CMK Quick and Easy seat with belts and the CMK resin control surfaces for the Hasegawa P-40K? Struck out at Great Models, Squadron, and Sprue Brothers... TIA, Scott G
  9. Only after they complete their Typhoon. Bubbletop canopy, 4 bladed prop, and LOTS Of rockets, please... Thanks, Scott Gentry
  10. Suitable photographs and loads of other research materials seem to be harder to come by as well. I am mainly an armor builder, not yet a VVS fan, but even with the armor subjects it can be quite difficult to find photos and information, especially in comparison to German subjects. I see an awful lot of threads where there still seems to be a lot of confusion and disagreement over basic VVS paint colors and other characteristics that are long solved for the Luftwaffe. Not sure for all of the reasons, but I think this is definitely a factor. Having said all that, I still think it all comes back to sales - every kid in the world who liked WWII knows what a Mustang, Zero, Spitfire, FW190 and BF109 all look like. Not sure how many of them know what a LAGG-7, Mig-3, or YAK-9 look like. Scott Gentry
  11. BURN! It is very very dangerous to use terms like "always", "never", etc... when discussing these issues. Of course it happened, as you have documented... Thanks for the photo... Scott Gentry
  12. https://umm-usa.com/onlinestore/index.php Best regards, Scott Gentry
  13. I thought this thread was about Jamies' avatar... Scott
  14. These might help: http://www.hyperscale.com/2011/galleries/p51dtamiyateaser32_1.htm http://www.hyperscale.com/2011/reviews/decals/x32043reviewbf_1.htm Take care! Scott Gentry
  15. For me, I would like the following in 1/32 scale: Grumman F6F Hellcat (I know we have kits but I want a nice one) Bell P-63A KingCobra P-61 Black Widow Hawker Typhoon Hawker Tempest Westland Whirlwind Fiat CR.42 Messerschmidt ME163 Komet Scott Gentry
  16. Really Really nice - hope you have a LARGE fireplace mantle to keep it on... Scott Gentry
  17. Wow, first attempt at weathering? Can't wait to see what number 10 looks like. Well done! One question - I am certainly no Mosquito expert - but shouldn't your' darker camoflauge color be green instead of grey? (maybe it is my monitor?) Scott Gentry
  18. It sounds to me like you have a contamination issue. How have you handled the model in between coats? Did you wash the model after the primer coat? Do you wear gloves? When people I know have had these issues - it was oil or other contaminants causing the issue. Doesn't take much... Good luck! Scott Gentry
  19. Jerry, Don't give up on Missing-Lynx, it is an excellent forum, and some of the best armor builders in the world hang out there. I am sure Brett Green can take care of whatever issues you are having over there. I have found some new sites thanks to this thread - thanks to all who contributed. Best regards to all, Scott Gentry
  20. Yet another vote for a Westland Whirlwind. Failing that, a GOOD P-39, and an injection molded Typhoon. Fun game to play... Scott
  21. See below - What in your experience with Tamiyas' 1/32 aircraft kits would lead you to believe they would muff it up? Just curious?
  22. I think it will be a Spitfire, Mk I, V, or XIV. I would think second possibility would be a P-51D, then an F4U-1 series. I don't think there is any chance it is a 109 or 190, or Hurricane. I wish it was a Tamiya Hellcat, or P-39Q, or Typhoon. But I don't think so. Scott
  23. Bronze green and zinc chromate green should be your interior colors, not grey. If you google Wildcat models or Grumman F4F or just look around here and over at Hyperscale.com, you should be able to see lots and lots of builds on the Wildcat. You were also right about your suspicions regarding steel, the panels should be black, not steel. Again, check your references and also the builds online. The underside is MOST definitely not IJN green. Most likely it is camoflauge grey, depending on which paint scheme you are doing, this is a dirty white color, just a touch of brown and blue in it. Good luck on your build, keep us posted and post some pics.
