  1. A dirty F-18! I like that Marine squadron too! I have an Academy kit and after reading a book about Scott Speicher I'd like to build it from the Sunliners that flew off the USS Saratoga. The anniversary of Desert Storm is approaching again. I spent 7 months in the desert for Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Cheers...Ron
  2. The gray and white with the blue cheat line on the 141 and C-5 were my favorite scheme too. When they were stretching the 141 to make the B model you'd see them in the gray and white with camouflage plugs. When they started re winging the C-5 there were a few in the gray white with new camouflage wing center sections and gray slats/flaps.
  3. No...didn't live there. Was a C-5 loadmaster at Travis AFB and we'd fly to Amarillo, Tx and load Cobra's or Huey's or go to McClellan AFB and load F-5E's and fly nonstop to Iran. We'd take engines and tires and parts for their F-4 and F-14 fleet. When the Shaw left in Feb 1979 I think it started getting bad and we would have to fly back out. Was evacuating people and contractors before the embassy fell in Nov 79. Later I hauled 2 of the RH-53's from Norfolk NAS to Diego Garcia that were used in the Desert 1 hostage rescue raid in April 1980.
  4. That's awesome! Love that inflight stand! Isn't that the same airplane the Navy pilots went on strike and refused to fly because of the O2 generation system not working? Cheers...Ron
  5. Very nice Skyhawk! I flew in those with my dad when I was a young fellow! Cheers...Ron
  6. WOW! Looks like an F-15 coral snake! Awesome job! Cheers....Ron
  7. Love it! Paint, oil streaks underneath and a bit of grime on top. All the remove before flight streamers really add to the color. Sitting alert waiting the next rocket attack from Gaza. Great job...looks good with the Sufa too. Need to add a Skyhawk and a Phantom II as well! Cheers...Ron
  8. It's probably in the job guide somewhere....has to be doesn't it???
  9. Awesome....gonna have to build my F-4J now!
  10. Hope you survived the earthquake ok. It really tore Anchorage up. Ron
  11. Looks just like a well used Tomcat! I miss seeing them fly at airshows. Cheers...Ron
  12. That is really looking good! Gonna have to get some of those Airscale instruments! Break, break....the Thunderbirds F-16 display is awesome! Such an easy display but the visual effect is just Awesome!!! Cheers...Ron
  13. I think I've seen a couple of assembly ship decals for the 48th B-24 on eBay. That would be a different build in 32nd scale though. Cheers...Ron
  14. Very nice F-100! Really like the worn/faded camouflage and the hot section of the tail. I I got my F-100 out...ordered the Zacto nose replacement...had the external tank extensions and seat from AMS and the Cutting Edge decals for "Pretty Penny" from the 481st TFW. I really liked that era of the USAF and Tactical Air Command.
  15. Wow...that is pretty cool looking! Like that key hole base and is that a fuel truck with it? Wish you had got some more pictures too! Cheers...Ron
  16. Wow...those are so real looking! Have your diorama come to life when you aren't looking!
  17. That's a nice looking F-84. I saw a picture of them refueling off a KC-97 and didn't know the air refueling receptacle was in the left wing! Paint finish is excellent! Cheers...Ron
  18. The airplane was Top Secret most of it's service career and the RAM adhesive was toxic so instead of storage in the boneyard they buried them on Tonopah Test Range in individual graves so to speak and marked with it's tail number. All the parts that were usable for other airframes were removed and put back into the AF parts supply. That way the "public" will never have access and you can only see them in museums. They will have the RAM material stripped and just painted black.
  19. WOW! Show us a picture of the Thunderbirds display! Love the T-Birds but never was able to master the nose scallops! Cheers....Ron
  20. That's a good picture of the stiffener rib on the 600 gallon tank. Saved it to my computer for mine! Cheers...Ron
  21. I have 3 sets of the Aero Craft gear struts...they are very nice cast brass and the nose gear strut is bigger. The main struts are a bit shorter to get the Phantom "sit" like it should be.
  22. The cockpit is really looking good. Never did hear from Gary but mine is going to be canopy's closed anyway. There is a stiffener rib on the left side of the real 600 gallon centerline tank if you wat to add it. The Phantom does everything...you never saw the tracked unimproved runway Phantom II? LOL! Good to see your progress! Cheers...Ron
  23. I know during Desert Storm they would take off...retract all their antenna's and the pilot would listen to his music while he flew the mission...come back...extend the antenna's and talk to the tanker for gas and go home. They went into some extreme high threat areas with no hits and I thank Lockheed ( they built my MC-130 too)for the technology to get that job done. I was really surprised that that one was shot down over Bosnia. Still a pretty good record for the 117! That's interesting your first hand view of seeing the 117 on radar. Thanks for sharing! Cheers...Ron
  24. I'm sure they didn't! And if they didn't have the radar reflectors mounted the ATC guys didn't know they were there either!
  25. I hear ya! My dad was a Vietnam vet...56th SOW at NKP 1971-72. He passed 6 years ago.
