SciFi58
The kind folks have allowed me to join with a started Spit. As the title says, this is the PCM IXc. I started it a long time ago, like so many models. I hope to finish this one as I work in tandem on my first wooden ship. Here are all the started assemblies, a few pieces assembled and some base color on some. Now I just need to clear a path to my disaster area model bench and get some color on the cockpit. geedubelyer

dennismcc
Should be interesting, I've got a couple of those lurking in the loft, though I think the title needs a slight mod (Mk IVc) Cheers Dennis

geedubelyer
Hello SciFi58, how are you getting on with your PCM Spitfire? My cousin built their Mk IX and found it to be quite a challenge but then it was his first multi-media short run kit. I hope you're getting to grips with your project. Cheers. SciFi58
Thanks gang! Geedubelyer, it is proving to be a character builder. The resin cockpit is nice as is the PE (if I didn't keep loosing seat belt parts and placards). I finished the cockpit, as seen below, but getting the wing into place after I got the fuselage halves together was a challenge. As it was there are gaps at the root. I always have gaps at the root. I have gaps at the root even with Hasegawa kits. There's something wrong with me. I have four Tamiya kits in the wings, both Zeroes and both Corsairs, and if those wings don't just slide into place perfectly I'll know it's me. At least my plank on frame HMS Bounty Launch is going perfectly. I can give up plastic and build wood. But I digress. I finally got the wing on a filled the canyons with some card only to realize, I forgot to install the exhausts. Off with its wing! Now I can't find the exhausts I wanted to use (used the last of my Metalizer burnt iron on 'em too) so I may have to use the round ones. The wood kit is really going so much better. I can even bend frames successfully and that scared the poop outta me. Well.... here is the cockpit. The only other thing that is done is the fuselage halves are together. geedubelyer
mozart
Perhaps you should build a Mosquito, they're made of wood! Nils desperandum!!! Max Edited January 15, 2016 by mozart
SciFi58
I have a Revell Mosquito in my collection, Max. But it's plastic. I need to find a wood model of a wood Mosquito!
geedubelyer
Well it may be a challenge but it looks as though you are well up to the task. Neat work on that cockpit. Cheers.
SciFi58
I've been struggling with this monster, although I strongly suspect I am the monster. Still, the wing to tail panel fit seems beyond any error I made. The big issues that I have been sanding and filling on are the wingroots, where the lower wing meets the nose and that darn aft wing insert. Almost done and the rest should fall together. Two general looks: Here is that aft wing insert: And the cockpit in place: Shaka HI
mozart
Well done you for sticking with those fit issues, they look pretty serious.....certainly enough to dissuade me from ever trying a PCM Spitfire, though I do have their Hurricane! Max
Dukie99
Hi Sci-fi, I had the same issue on my PCM MkXIV, used a lot of putty to fill the gap. it did not turn out perfect but goog enough, definitely the low point of my build too. Keep it up, once I paint and decals my model I tend to forget about these little blemishes and all I see is a perfectly good looking model:)
dennismcc
I usually just insert a piece of scrap plastic card in gaps like that and fill with CA, usually works a treat, the PCM and SH short run kits do tend to have character building fit issues but it is normally worth dealing with them for the range of subjects that you can get from them. If I remember correctly the Spitfire IX from PCM was the first IM kit of the IX and was much anticipated at the time of it's release. And we'll done SciFi for persevering with a challenging build. If it's any consolation I can never seem to get things to fit either.. geedubelyer
