Thanks for the tips guys. Mike, I'll look into that decal adhesive to see if it could help.

I think I've just about vanquished the decals. The plan now is to handle the touchups for where decals split along raised detail.  MRP's AII KR Red and Gunze's Shine Red seem to be exact matches of the decals, so I should be able to use those to spray in repairs if I'm super careful with Post-It note masks.

Just about to a place where I'm happy with the decals. Still some tiny spots of silvering to hunt down and remove, but it's 90+% better than it was a few days ago.  It's been sealed with another gloss coat to protect everything, and next it'll be time for some weathering and washes.

I did airbrush and brush in the touchups, looks like I have a couple more to still fix. Finding the right red shade was definitely a lucky coincidence, it blends in perfectly.

Thanks very much John. This definitely was an exercise in patience and repetition, but it should be worth it in the end.  I'm not sure if masking it would have been easier from the start, since getting hard lines on the surface would have been just as difficult with tape or vinyl.  I'm just happy to be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Just hope it's not a freight train.

I built the kit a while ago using the kit's decals, and it was also a struggle to persuade them to lay down on the fine corrugated surface.

Cheers

At least I didn't make a mistake by not using the kit ones. That would have been annoying if they worked beautifully on the surface detail

The wash is just about done now, and the PZL has been hit with a cautionary flat coat. Main wash color on the khaki was AMMO Brown Wash for German Dark Yellow.  It's a really good dark green brown shade that played well with the shade.  The underside got a wash of AMMO Blue Dirt.  Then both sides got some light speckling to add some more texture, and as an analog to salt weathering, which I can't seem to quite get right.

Not everything is perfect though, as it appears that the bottom seam has cracked apart.  That'll need to get filled and sanded before I can move on.  The next step might be a controversial one, but I'm planning to hit the raised detail with a very light drybrush. I don't want it to look like it's got chickenpox, but just to give the surface a little more interest.  We'll see how it goes, but the flat coat should serve as protection if something goes awry.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks very much Titan.  The drybrush process has also been finished, so the PZL is another step closer to being done.  Everything was drybrushed with Vallejo acrylics and my Artis Opus brushes. Seeing the results on this build, they really were worth the purchase.  The khaki was brushed with Khaki Gray and a drop of Deck Tan, while the underside and the blue markings were done with Pale Grey Blue.  It really seems to have brought the surface detail more to life, which was the goal.
