  • Erwin changed the title to 1/24 th Airfix Hellcat: FINISHED !

Hi all,

Finished after just two weeks.

But that's only because I don't spend much time on internal detail.

Finished with just the US-stars.

I rarely add codes to my builds.Unless it's for a certain era and place in a group build.

Been seeing your builds for years, and it always amazes me these are brush painted. You mentioned a kitchen sponge, do you do this between all coats, and do you use a spray can for clear coats?

Don

The first coat is straight from the jar

The second and third(if needed)has some thinner added.

The sponge is used directly after adding the paint to get rid of the strokes.Best is to do it with each coat.

I don't use clear coats.I use satin enamel straigt from the jar or mix it with satin or gloss varnish when using a color only found in matt.

I never paint matt.

Hi Erwin,

in the interests of honesty i will say that i think that single colour finishes are challenging but for me the surfaces just look rather flat (in terms of variation, not gloss vs matt) and could have more depth

for me personally it's just too clean and I would like to see some form of weathering visible

it's also why i have shied away from these USN birds because I am so scared of that navy blue finish :o

i admire your ability to just get stuck in and churn these builds out - I wish I could do that!

thank you for sharing and I hope you appreciate the honest feedback

kind regards

Nick

Hi,

All feedback is wellcome.

I do all my builds as factory fresh or museum pieces.

That means no weathering.

It's just the way I do it.
