F4D....the Ford

Dunno, I have never seen the kit before and didn't know if its existence. That could be because I don't follow jets of that era, but I'm also not the expert on 32-scale planes in general. :D

As a builder, I would say for the following reasons:

  • The subject is not glamorized by any famous fighter pilots making any high-visibility kills.
  • As a dedicated interceptor, the F4D was unsuited to the multi-mission capabilities soon in demand, so it had a short career in Navy and Marine Corps service.
  • The Fisher kit's list price is  $259.85.
  • The Fisher kit is resin, in addition to being brittle, not a fun material to work with if you have to do any serious cutting, grinding, etc.
  • If I were to try this lesser-known subject, I would start with the old Lindberg 1/48th kit, which lists for $14.99, although I am sure it wouldn't be an eye-grabbing show-piece like yours!

Stunningly beautiful Ford! :clap2:

:goodjob:    :):goodjob:    :goodjob:

We have Tamiya´s beautiful little kit in 1/48th, it must be better then Lindberg!

I love the Ford and I would get Fisher´s kit in an eyeblink, if I only had the money, I have three Tamitya kits, tough.

Cheers!

Just saw this live and in person yesterday! What a model! (although Dan's explanation of his work on the NATs card below his model was HIGHLY inaccurate, as under the description of Dan's work it simply read "nothing special") I have to say it was VERY spacial, and indeed stood out from the crowd for sure.

From his photos, I bet it looks like an escapee from an aero-museum that got miniaturized!;)

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

I know that the perception is that this kit is expensive, and, ok it is. But everything comes in one box, no need for after market. If for example you buy a Tamiya 1:32 scale "anything" and then add a resin cockpit, resin exhaust, resin wheels, decals..... I would venture to guess that you have exceeded the cost of this kit. If you want a Ford go for it. You won't be disappointed.
